Science came to life at SC4 as we welcomed the Michigan Community College Biologists Conference to campus!
One of the highlights of the visit was a presentation by SC4 Biology Instructor Cadey Korson, who showcased the college's interactive stream table. A stream table is a hands-on educational model that uses flowing water and sediment to demonstrate how rivers, streams, erosion, flooding, and landforms change over time. It serves as a valuable learning tool in SC4 classrooms, summer camps, and during our annual SC4 STEMFest.
During the demonstration, Cadey modeled the impact of riparian planting during a flood event, showing how vegetation along waterways can help reduce erosion and protect surrounding areas. The presentation even uncovered a few buried Monopoly houses hidden beneath the sand, providing a fun and memorable way to visualize the effects of flooding and landscape change!
Thank you to all of the conference attendees who visited campus and experienced hands-on science at SC4.
