The Gardens’ collections include:

Over 100 species of palms from around the world
130 unique varieties of begonias
A lush tropical conservatory featuring a koi pond, carnivorous plants and an extensive orchid collection

Sherman Library & Gardens was founded in 1966 by Arnold D. Sherman, educator and California pioneer. There are dining options at our al fresco garden cafe, with a creperie open in the tea garden on weekends.

Join us on June 30th at Sherman Library and Gardens for an exclusive evening diving deep into the history of the world’s greatest lifeguard department.

Former lifeguard and Newport Beach Historian Laureate Bill Lobdell (Bill Lobdell) will share the incredible story of how Tony Deraga’s leadership helped created modern lifeguarding standards.

Before the talk, we are gathering to celebrate our Murals Beyond the Garden Walls initiative, including an inside look at the newest installation at Crown Ace Hardware in Corona del Mar.

🍯🐶Allow us to formally introduce Honey! Honey is one of the incredible dog sculptures from the talented that we have on display throughout this Summer.

🧡The name Honey was given as a triple entendre: it’s the color of organic honey, it refers to the cheeky saying of a “honey do” list, and lastly, it has an empowering message - Make It Happen!!

🪩Honey will be featured front and center at this years’ Burning Man, and the artist’s work has the proud distinction of being one of only 75 art projects worldwide chosen to be Honoraria Artists at Black Rock City for 2026.

🐾This pup loves long sits on the bricks and sweet treats! She is also available for adoption (purchase 😉)!

Wednesday Garden Spotlight 🪴

“Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ is a Grevillea hybrid that has become incredibly popular and is native to Australia. It’s a type of evergreen shrub that blooms all year round.

The flowers actually change in color as they mature, starting off yellow and then becoming pink and orange, hence the name peaches and cream.

The Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ produce plenty of nectar which bees and hummingbirds absolutely love. The shrub leaves are bright green but also have a hint of bronze on the tips during the wintertime.

Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ does well in a whole range of climates, whether dry or humid. It can handle frost and almost any type of soil.

The parents of this particular hybrid are the Grevillea bipinnatifida which comes from Western Australia, and Grevillea banksii, from Queensland. The Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ cultivar was first spotted in Brisbane in 1997 and became an official variety in 2006.

The shrub is versatile because you can grow it in acidic soil, as long as it’s well-draining, and the plant will do well in either full sun or partial shade. Once this Grevillea has matured it can handle drought well.

Grevillea ‘Peaches and Cream’ looks great as a hedge or screen and is effective as a windbreak. If you’re living by the coast, the shrub will do well.”
