Happy Father's Day to every dad who's carried a kid on his shoulders through a tide pool and answered fifty questions about a hermit crab. Some of the best lessons about the world come from a dad simply pointing and saying, "Look at that."

This is what stewardship looks like, passed down one generation at a time. 🌿

Juneteenth marks a long-overdue recognition of freedom for all Americans. At Crystal Cove Conservancy, we believe the coast should belong to everyone too.

That's why expanding access for students, families, and communities who have historically faced barriers to the outdoors is part of our work every day, not just today. (In fact, nearly three-quarters of our students come from Title 1 Schools).

Today, we celebrate freedom. Every day, we work towards access.

The recent South Swells have been a powerful reminder of how dynamic our coastline really is. As waves and ocean conditions shift, it's a good moment to pause and ask: what's actually happening beneath the surface?

LA Times environmental reporter Rosanna Xia recently wrote about CalCOFI, the world's longest-running ocean monitoring program based right off our coast, and how decades of data help scientists understand events like El Niño and marine heat waves before they fully unfold. Her work is a reminder that the ocean is always changing, and paying close attention is how we protect it.

Join us for a Cove Talk with Rosanna Xia on June 30th as we talk about coastal resilience. This is a conversation for our whole community, from Newport to Laguna and beyond.

Due to hazardous beach conditions and out of an abundance of caution, this Thursday’s Movies on the Beach: Zootopia 2 at Crystal Cove State Park has been postponed.

The National Weather Service has extended the Hazardous Beach Conditions Statement through Friday night, with the most significant impacts expected at southwest-facing beaches, including Crystal Cove State Park.

The safety of our guests, staff, and community remains our top priority.
In the meantime, you can still look forward to Hoppers on July 2nd and The Wild Robot on August 6th. We hope to see you all there.

An update on the South Swell from our President & CEO, Kate Wheeler.

Our efforts to protect the coasts have not wavered. Lifeguards and State Park staff will continue to monitor the tides. However, beachgoers are still advised to stay on high alert if visiting.

What does it look like when the coast starts to disappear, and who gets to decide what comes next?

Rosanna Xia has spent years asking that question as an award-winning LA Times environmental reporter and author of 'California Against the Sea'.

Join us on June 30th, 5:30PM - 7:30PM as we discuss what rising seas mean for California's coastline, its communities, and the choices ahead. No doom here, just urgent optimism.
