Members of the Milton Washington Township Fire Department were lucky enough to be at Western Wayne Elementary school this week to spread the word about Fire Safety during Fire Prevention week 2026. Our normal special guest Sparky the Fire Dog was not feeling well. So we brought Tempo our Search and Rescue K9 to get some extra pets, hugs and attention (since he loves attention) he was a big hit and was loved on by all. He was able to still beat a few adventurous second graders that challenged him to a sprint race so he’s pretty happy with keeping his fastest on fire prevention day title.

IDHS General Operator Course

General Operator Course Announcement
Milton Washington Township Fire Department will be hosting a General Operator Class for students working toward Driver/Operator General certification requirements.
This course will include classroom instruction, apparatus inspection and maintenance, emergency vehicle operations, hands-on skills, driving course work, and final testing.
Class Dates:
December 7: 6:00 PM–9:00 PM
December 14: 6:00 PM–9:00 PM
January 3: 10:00 AM–4:00 PM
January 9: Skills testing 8:00 AM–1:00 PM
January 9: Final State Exam 2:00 PM–5:00 PM

Prerequisites:
Valid driver’s license
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must be an Indiana resident
Students will need to complete the required Resource One coursework before taking the state exam.

I-70 westbound is closed near Washington Road (mile marker 141) due to a crash in Wayne County. Traffic is being diverted onto Centerville Road. Please avoid the area if possible.

New Extrication Equipment Addition.
We were fortunate to be offered this equipment by a department at a price we couldn’t pass up. We now have two sets of up to date battery powered Hurst Extrication equipment to serve in the time of need. The big plus to this set is it now gives us an electric ram for difficult extrications on the highways. These replaced equipment from the late 1980s/early 90s that were out dated and unable to be serviced or repaired and were not useable on newer vehicle technology.

Thank you to the bothers and sisters and especially the Administration of the anonymous department.

Today, the Milton / Washington Township Fire Department pauses to honor and remember the 2,977 lives lost on September 11, 2001.

We hold a deep and lasting reverence for the 343 FDNY firefighters, 71 law enforcement officers, and 8 emergency medical technicians who made the ultimate sacrifice while running toward danger to save others.

To our community: today, we remember them all, support their families, and reaffirm our own vow to always answer the call.

We will Never Forget. 🇺🇸
