Due to the recent flooding, the Town of Cambridge City was unable to mail out water bills for the month of September. Additionally, because we were unable to access and read water meters, each homeโ€™s usage was estimated based on your normal usage.

It is expected that this process will continue for the month of October.

We are so grateful.

Thank you to everyone who brought food, water, cleaning supplies, and so many other items to help our neighbors after the flood. Churches, businesses, families, and people we may never meet showed up with generous hearts, and it made a real difference.

We are no longer accepting donated items.

Please do not drop off additional food, water, supplies, or other goods. If that changes, we will let you know here on Facebook.

We are still accepting financial donations to the church flood relief fund. You can do that at: https://4c.churchcenter.com/giving.

Those gifts help with remaining needs as families continue to recover.

Thank you again for loving this community well. Please keep praying for those still rebuilding.

Here is a follow up from our post yesterday:

Property owners should not assume that elevation is their only possible option.

Depending upon the property and available programs, possible options may include:

Repair/reconstruction with elevation:
A substantially damaged home may be reconstructed in compliance with current floodplain requirements.

NFIP Increased Cost of Compliance (ICC):
Homeowners who had National Flood Insurance Program flood insurance may qualify for additional insurance benefits to help pay certain costs associated with elevation, relocation or demolition.

Voluntary acquisition/buyout:
Cambridge City is exploring whether FEMA/Indiana hazard-mitigation funding may become available for voluntary acquisition of certain flood-prone properties. No buyout program or funding is guaranteed at this time.

Participation in any FEMA-funded acquisition program would be voluntary.

A 50% determination is an important step; not the end of the process.

We understand that receiving a substantial-damage determination can raise serious financial and personal concerns.

The Town encourages affected property owners to:

1. Obtain and review their substantial-damage determination.

2. Review the values and repair estimates used in the calculation.

3. Contact the Town before beginning reconstruction.

4. Ask questions about elevation and rebuilding requirements.

5. Discuss possible insurance, mitigation, or voluntary acquisition assistance.

6. Exercise their appeal rights if they believe the determination is incorrect.

Cambridge City will continue working with Indiana DNR, Indiana Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and other agencies to identify available recovery and mitigation options for affected property owners.

Our goal is to help residents understand their options and make informed decisions about rebuilding and recovery.

As our community continues to recover from the flooding, we want to make sure residents and businesses know what is required before beginning flood related repairs.

If your property is located within the regulated floodplain or floodway, the town must complete a flood damage/substantial damage determination assessment.

The Town of Cambridge City is currently waiving flood repair permit fees, but permits are still required when applicable.

Due to the large number of permits anticipated and our limited staff, flood repair permits will be issued on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM.

These procedures apply to both private residences and businesses.

We understand there is a lot of information to navigate following a disaster. We have attached an infographic to help our community members better understand the process and determine what steps to take before beginning repairs.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue working together to rebuild Cambridge City! โค๏ธ
