Dorothy Day House provides housing and support to families experiencing homelessness/housing insecurity, helping parents and children stay together as they work toward stability.

Working with other local agencies, staff members and volunteers provide families in need with a safe environment and the means to re-establish their independence.

We need queen-, full-, and twin-size beds for families staying at Dorothy Day House and those moving into homes of their own. Providing beds as families transition into independent housing is an important part of helping them build stability and start their next chapter.

🥞🎃Saturday morning was full of fall fun at Dorothy Day House!

Our board hosted a festive Pancakes & Pumpkins gathering for the families currently staying at DDH. It was a beautiful morning with perfect weather filled with family, pumpkin painting, and plenty of pancakes and sausage! ❤️

We’re so grateful to our board for helping create these special moments and making the season a little brighter for the families we serve. 🍂🏠

🚐 A milestone worth celebrating!

Yesterday, we gathered with the Wolfpack at Cordova High School to celebrate a very special gift: a newly repaired, road-ready van for a mother from Dorothy Day House!

This special gift was the result of a wonderful community partnership. Our friends at MidSouth Hope Garage helped coordinate the behind-the-scenes work with Mr. Sneed, Cordova High School’s Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair teacher. Under his direction, students from Cordova and other local high schools with Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs put their skills to work, making the repairs needed to get this van safe and ready for the road.

The celebration included student prizes, program awards, prayers for the mom and her new transportation, and so much joy shared by everyone. ❤️

Reliable transportation can make a world of difference for a parent working toward stable housing, employment, and a brighter future for their children. We are so grateful that this mother and her family will have that support as they take their next steps.

A heartfelt thank-you to MidSouth Hope Garage, Mr. Sneed and Cordova High Auto Tech, the tow truck team who helped deliver the van, and everyone who played a part in making this day possible!

This is what happens when a community comes together to put its skills, resources, and hearts to work for others. 🧡

When parents feel supported and empowered, they are better equipped to support their children. 📚

Lauren Short of SchoolKit joined our Family Workshop to help parents navigate the world of education. From understanding classroom fundamentals and state test results to finding the right words to ask school administrators for additional support, Lauren gave families practical tools they can use as their children grow and learn.

At Dorothy Day House, our work goes beyond providing a place to stay. We want to help families build the knowledge, confidence, and connections they need for the road ahead. Thank you, Lauren, for helping parents feel prepared to advocate for their children!
