We are incredibly grateful to receive a $5,000 grant through the Corley Memorial Trust, a program created in honor of a longtime community member who cared deeply about giving back.

This support will help us continue to expand transportation services for the individuals we serve at The Independent Living Center. For many people with disabilities or specialized needs, transportation plays a key role in connection and community involvement. As we grow our peer support opportunities, social outings, and other activities, reliable and accessible transportation becomes even more essential.

We appreciate this investment in our mission and in the people we serve. It helps ensure greater access to resources, relationships, and opportunities that support independent living and full community participation.

Thank you to the Corley Memorial Trust for making this possible.

Independence Starts with Choice.

At The Independent Living Center, we believe people with disabilities should have the freedom to make decisions about their own lives—including who provides their personal care services.

That's why our Consumer Directed Services (CDS) program is built on the core principles of the Independent Living Movement: choice, control, self-determination, and community inclusion.

Through CDS, individuals can choose their own caregiver, allowing them to maintain independence and receive support in a way that works best for them.

For those interested in becoming an attendant, we're proud to offer higher wages than many other CDS providers in the region. We believe the important work of supporting independence deserves competitive compensation.

Whether you're interested in receiving services or becoming an attendant for a family member or friend, we're here to help.

Contact The Independent Living Center to learn more about Consumer Directed Services and how we can help you live life on your terms. (417)659-8086

Did you know The Independent Living Center has members of staff who are equipped to assist community members with applying for SSI and disability benefits?

SOAR (SSI/SSDI Outreach, Access, and Recovery) is designed to help individuals navigate the often complicated disability application process and improve access to the benefits and supports they may need.

At The Independent Living Center, we are always looking for new ways to better serve our community and provide meaningful support to individuals on their path toward independence and stability. This is just one more way we’re working to make a difference right here in our community.

If you or someone you know may benefit from this assistance, feel free to contact us to learn more. (417)659-8086

Please note that we have made a slight adjustment to the time for our Men’s Health Day in June.

Join us on June 23rd from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM for an engaging discussion focused on health, wellness, and overcoming challenges.

We will hear from three speakers who will share their personal experiences of overcoming disability and becoming active, involved members of the community. Their stories will offer insight and encouragement on independence and personal growth.

We will also have a Physical Therapist joining us to discuss the importance of men’s health, exercise, and the role physical therapy can play in maintaining overall wellness and quality of life.

We look forward to a meaningful afternoon of conversation, learning, and connection! Please RSVP by June 16th if you require transportation.
