This September, the Board and Staff of the Library invite you to celebrate Library Card Sign-up Month and discover how a library card can hit all the right notes, no matter what your tastes are.

With a library card, you can do more than check out books. From free classes and job resources to homework help, streaming media, and cultural events, today's libraries connect communities to information, inspiration, and each other.

Visit the Library between Tuesday, September 1 and Tuesday, September 8 and register to win a book and a Bossard Library book bag. One entry per person, per day. Drawing will be held the afternoon of Wednesday, September 9.

An initiative of the American Library Association, Library Card Sign-up Month has been held each September since 1987 to mark the beginning of the school year, combat illiteracy, and encourage communities everywhere to explore all the offerings that having a library card unlocks. Today, thousands of public libraries and schools nationwide participate in the month-long celebration each fall.

This year's theme, "A Library Card Hits All the Right Notes," is a reminder that libraries offer something for everyone -- no matter your age, background, or goals. Whether you are checking out a classic story or trying something new, finding harmony at the library's programs, finding your focus in a study room or vibing out in a cozy nook, or composing your future with new skills, there is a seat in the front row at the library for you; and your library card, with the new library app, is your ticket.

Getting a library card is free, easy, and empowering. For students, it's a key to academic success. For adults, it's a gateway to lifelong learning. For everyone, it is a smart way to stay connected to your community. For information on how to obtain a library card, please contact the Library at 740-446-7323 or visit the Library online at bossardlibrary.org.

This September, "bee" sharp and sign up for a library card at the Library, located at 7 Spruce Street, Gallipolis.

New Library Mobile App Launches !

Library mascot Rubee says:

"Download our new app and give it a lookie,

"Show us the app and we'll give you a cookie."

Bossard Memorial Library is pleased to announce the launch of the new library mobile app, available for download beginning September 1, the first day of National Library Card Signup Month.

From September 1 through September 5, the Library encourages individuals to stop by the library, show us that you have downloaded the new app (or allow us to assist you in downloading the new app) and receive a special themed cookie!

Individuals may download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store by searching for Bossard Memorial Library.

App features include, but are not limited to:

*the ability to show your library card number (barcode) using the My Barcode button. Patrons are permitted to show their card on the app in lieu of the physical library card. Patrons are also able to add their library card to their "wallet" on their device. After downloading the app, patrons will be prompted to enter their library card number and PIN to access their account through the app.

*the ability to use the app to perform "Self-Checkout" while within the Library. Patrons will be permitted to use their mobile device to borrow books, audiobooks, board games, and periodicals. All other items, including holds, must be checked out to the patron by a staff member. Patrons will receive a receipt for self-checkout within their account in the app.

*the ability to register for events through the mobile app.

*the ability to pay fines and fees through the mobile app.

*the ability to "link" juvenile accounts to the parent/guardian's account. The parent/guardian of a minor (age 17 and under) may link their minor child's (or children's) library card account(s) through the Library's mobile app. The child or children must be present in order for a parent/guardian to utilize their minor child's linked account(s) on the mobile app to borrow library materials.

*the ability to select English or Spanish as their preferred language on the app.

Join the fun! Bossard Trivia Night on Tuesday, September 1 at 6:00 PM.

Participants can play individually, be matched up with others to create a team, or bring a team of family and friends. The maximum number of participants for each team is 10 people.

This will be a multi-round competition with questions ranging from easy to challenging. Teams will submit answers on paper so no one will have to stand up in front of everyone, push a buzzer, or feel self-conscious.

The winning individual or team will receive a nominal prize(s) and, most importantly, will own the bragging rights to Bossard Trivia Night for the month.

This event is open to those ages 13+.

Light refreshments will be served.
