🇹🇼✈️ Following the successful “Democratic Resilience” forum in Denver, the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in Denver immediately continued its outreach to Kansas, where it co-hosted the second Democratic Resilience forum on May 16 together with the Taiwan-America Friendship Association. The event featured keynote remarks by Dr. Fang-Yu Chen, Associate Professor at Soochow University, and Professor Megan Greene, a Kansas-based historian. Director-General Hong-Hui Huang delivered the opening remarks and served as moderator for the discussion.
👏 The event also received strong bipartisan support from prominent Kansas political leaders, including U.S. Representative Derek Schmidt, Kansas House Speaker Daniel Hawkins, House Majority Leader Chris Croft, Kansas State Treasurer Steven Johnson, and State Representatives Pat Proctor, Susan Estes, Emil Bergquist, and Charlotte Esau, all of whom delivered remarks. Additional distinguished guests in attendance included Jason Osterhaus, District Director for U.S. Senator Jerry Moran; Kansas House Speaker Pro Tem Blake Carpenter; State Representatives Bob Lewis and Lauren Bohi; Kansas Attorney General candidate Matt Binggesser; and former Kansas House Speaker Ray Merrick, all expressing steadfast support for Taiwan.
📚🔥 The forum featured rich and engaging discussions. Dr. Chen provided in-depth analysis of the triangular relationship among Taiwan, the United States, and China from the perspectives of international politics and geopolitical strategy. Professor Greene, meanwhile, examined Taiwan’s democratization through a historical lens, highlighting the important role the United States has played throughout Taiwan’s democratic development and offering attendees a deeper understanding of the historical evolution of Taiwan-U.S. relations.
🙌 More than 70 participants attended the event, including members of IRCKC led by Senior Advisor Daniel Fitzpatrick, representatives from the Formosan Association for Public Affairs (FAPA), the Kansas Chinese School, and Taiwanese community leaders from across Kansas. The audience actively engaged in the discussion, creating a lively atmosphere of dialogue and exchange.
🎉 This year marks the 30th anniversary of Taiwan’s first direct presidential election and the 250th anniversary of the founding of the United States. Against this historically significant backdrop, gathering together with friends and partners to discuss democratic resilience and Taiwan-U.S.-China relations carried even greater meaning.
❤️ We sincerely thank all distinguished guests and elected officials for their unwavering support for Taiwan. Special thanks also go to the Taiwan-America Friendship Association and the Greater Kansas City Taiwanese Association for their generous assistance and partnership in making this event possible.
👋 The Denver Office will return to Kansas again soon, and we look forward to seeing everyone again in the near future!
