It’s time for the Week-End Update, Halloween edition! Check out what has happened this week and what to look forward to this weekend.

And, don’t forget to vote, Denver!

When Denverites are experiencing their most painful and hardest moments, our first responders are the first faces they see. Our emergency operators, police officers, firefighters and paramedics are the backbone of our community, keeping us safe and support, day in and day out. Thank you for all that you do for Denver.

Dolores Huerta was a giant – and a giant killer.

As a founder of the National Farm Workers Association, she brought grape-growers to their knees, forcing them to finally recognize workers as human beings and provide the health insurance, benefits and pay they deserved.

She was a champion of rights, a powerful advocate for migrants and a mother.

She was one of the strongest people our nation has ever known.

¡Sí, se puede! May she rest in power.

We’ve been working on this for years and are so thrilled for a chance to host the NCAA Final Four in Denver.

This is why a new Broncos stadium with a retractable roof and more than 50,000 seats will expand our eligibility for events like this and provide new and exciting opportunities for Denver.

We are making government more efficient and easier to navigate, starting with affordable housing. Today with Governor Polis, we announced the Housing Hub Colorado Common Application. It’s one unified process that replaces separate agency applications, lowers costs and speeds up build times starting in 2027.

In Denver, there are 31,000 kids under age 4.

But fewer than 5,000 licensed childcare slots.

And it costs $25,000 a year to get your kid into one of those spots.

That means after rent, some families spend two-thirds of their income on childcare before even buying groceries.

We want Denver to be a place where families can afford to raise kids, no matter their income, without feeling like one parent has to stay home just to make it work.

This is the last week to take our childcare survey and tell us what matters most to you, as we work toward a better system for childcare in this city.

Tonight, we showed up for Denver families and supported the teams who walk alongside them during some of life’s most difficult moments.

When a family loses someone, there can be more questions than answers. The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner makes sure every person is treated with dignity and supports families during an incredibly difficult time.

And through the Family Advocate Support Team, they provide a much-needed system of support for grieving families.

We’re grateful to stand alongside our partners at the Office of the Medical Examiner and the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment and to support the meaningful work they do for our Denver community every day.
