Food System Policies
Many Denver residents, especially children, have limited access to healthy, affordable foods and beverages. Limited access to nutritious food can result in poor health. Creating healthy communities is not just about changing individual behaviors, it is also about changing the environments in which people live, work, learn and play. The Denver Healthy Corner Store Initiative is working to increase the access to healthy foods in Denver neighborhoods that do not have many grocery stores. Strategies include improving the small-scale food distribution system and trying to make healthy food sales profitable for retailers and affordable for residents.
