The Farm, Fur, and Field 4-H Day Camp started off a bit slow on Friday with a large number of eager youth!
Our rabbit session was canceled because our guest host broke down on the side of the road coming from Randolph County. We were so sad about that, but we will try to reschedule for a later date!
We started the morning with a nature walk to scout where we would be collecting insects later in the day with Dr. Hannah Talton from NC A&T State University.
Leaning Oak Farm LLC did not disappoint! We learned all about growing different types of pumpkins, and we even got to paint some. Adrianne came a little earlier than scheduled and helped us out of our dilemma. We found a video on how to properly handle rabbits, and Adrianne went over some fun facts about them.
3:36 Farm also brought by one of the 4-H Poultry Show chickens she raised. We learned about Blue Laced Red Wyandottes on the front lawn, and the participants were able to ask questions and hold the hen.
After lunch, we met with Dr. Hannah Talton from NC A&T to dive into the wonderful world of insects. We learned about friend vs. foe, and then we broke out into groups to compete to catch 6 insects in our bug cages using our hands, nets, and different techniques she taught us.
