A little extra color around campus thanks to the hard work of our Landscape Crew. From planting to pruning, they have been busy making App State bloom just in time for one of the busiest weeks of the year. Take a moment to look around and enjoy it!

Last Wednesday, the landscape team lead by Chris Erickson along with volunteers Julia Showalter and her biology class and other members of the Biology Department teamed up to install beautiful new native garden between Rankin Science and Varsity Gym.
The garden features native shrubs, perennials and trees that not only enhance the space but also support local ecosystems and serve as a living classroom for biology students.
Huge thanks to everyone who helped make this project a success!

Congratulations David Isaacs on being named Employee of the Quarter (3rd Quarter) for Facilities Management. If you are admiring the landscaping around campus, you are seeing the incredible work of David and his team. Thank you David for making our campus beautiful and welcoming. On August 6th we had our Summer Picnic. Great opportunity to say Thank You for all the hard work and dedication to the entire facilities team. Also great to have Chancellor Norris, Executive Vice Chancellor/Provost Specht and Chief Operating Officer/Executive Vice Chancellor Brown in attendance.

Amy McNeill was presented the the award for the 2025 2nd quarter Employee of the Quarter by Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management, Mr. Nick Katers.

Amy was selected due to her exceptional work performance. She has been with Facilities Management for 10 years and always has a positive impact on the division and the university.

Congratulations Amy!

Facilities Management would like to welcome Melody Pineda as the new Director of Real Estate.

Melody is a graduate of Watauga High School. She earned her BA in International Relations from UNC-Chapel Hill and her MA in Political Science from Appalachian State. Melody joined App State in 2024.

Please join us in welcoming her to the Facilities team.

Jonathan Larsen was presented with the Employee of the Quarter for 1st quarter 2025 by Associate Vice Chancellor for Facilities Management, Mr. Nick Katers, Director of Facilities Operations, Mr. Jerry Brain, Environmental Services Manager, Mr. Greg Day and Building Environmental Supervisor, Mr. Kevin Shatley.

Jonathan was recognized because he goes above and beyond to make sure his assigned area is taken care of and goes out of his way to make sure students, faculty and staff have a clean and safe work area.

Congratulations to Michelle Novacek who is retiring from App State after 14 years of service. We were able to celebrate her last Wednesday with a cake and ice cream social. Enjoy retirement Michelle!!!
