😎🐾It's the dog days of summer!

September is here, but summer temps are sticking around in the mountains and across the state. And that can mean higher energy use!

Follow these simple tips to beat the peak over the next few days:

✅Raise your thermostat a few degrees — stay comfy while saving energy
✅Use fans to keep cool and turn them off when you leave the room
✅Shift large appliance use (think laundry, dishwashing) to avoid use from 2 to 8 p.m.
✅Close blinds and curtains to keep afternoon heat out

Small changes, big impacts. Thanks for conserving energy with us, High Country!

📣New month, who this? Oh, it's just us, reminding you to change dirty filters!

Dirty filters are inefficient because your cooling and heating system has to work harder to push air through.

Regular maintenance and changing filters are simple, effective ways to save energy and money.

: Electrical safety in the classroom and beyond!

Last week we shared electrical safety tips for dorm life. This Tip Tuesday, we're going back to the basics for our younger students, their teachers and parents.

🔌 Never put fingers or objects into electrical outlets
⚡ Stay away from utility poles, power lines and electrical equipment
💧 Keep electronics and electrical devices away from water
🔋 Ask an adult for help with plugs, cords or damaged electronics
⚠️Never charge a Chromebook or other electronics with a frayed cord, on your mattress or under a pillow

Looking for ways to make electrical safety part of the school year? The Electrical Safety Foundation International offers free activities, lessons and resources for kids, parents and educators.

⛈️ Weather Aware Day

It's a rainy start here in the mountains, with thunderstorms possible throughout the day.

While not every storm causes outages, remember to stay weather aware and use caution around lightning and heavy rain.

⚡ If you experience an outage, call 828-264-3671 to report it.

⚠️ If you encounter a downed power line, always assume it is energized, stay well away and give us a call to report. If you're in immediate danger, call 911.

For outage information, safety tips and preparedness resources, visit the NRLP website at nrlp.appstate.edu.

Stay safe, and maybe keep the umbrella handy today, High Country! ☔

🔌 : Start the school year safely!

Classes are back in session! As you settle in, now's a great time for a quick electrical safety check.

⚡ Don't overload outlets or power strips.
🔌 Use extension cords only temporarily — not as permanent wiring.
💻 Plug high-powered devices directly into wall outlets when required.
🛏️ Keep cords out from under rugs, furniture and bedding.
🚫 Never use damaged, frayed or unusually hot cords or chargers.

A few simple habits can help keep your space safe all semester long.

Here's to a safe and bright school year! 💛
