💛 June is Public Power Month of Giving 💛

Public Power Month of Giving is a national initiative that encourages public power utilities across the country to give back to the communities they serve.

This year, we’re kicking off Month of Giving with a community supply drive benefiting the Watauga Humane Society 🐾

We’re collecting items to help care for local animals while they wait for their forever homes — from food and treats to cleaning supplies and enrichment items. Every donation makes a difference.

There are three easy ways to help:

🐶 Drop off donations at the NRLP office
🐱 Shop directly from the Watauga Humane Society wishlist
❤️ Make a monetary donation online

Together, we can keep tails wagging and continue powering good in the High Country. 💛

We were thrilled to celebrate this year’s NRLP Scholarship recipients and Lineworker Scholarship recipient during a recent awards ceremony honoring outstanding local students 🎉

Supporting education and investing in the next generation is one of the many ways we live out the values of public power and strengthen the community we serve.

We’re so proud of these students — be on the lookout for more details soon!

📷Thanks to Watauga County Schools for providing this special memento of the evening, and all of the staff and teachers who made the evening happen!

Did you know? Military veterans make up about 10% of the electric utility industry.

NRLP is proud to join utilities across the nation in hiring military-affiliated employees, including veterans and military family members.

As we close out Military Appreciation Month, we’d like to give special thanks to everyone who has served and continues to serve! 🇺🇸

⚡Restoration Update 5:30 p.m.: Power has been restored to all affected customers. If you are still experiencing an outage, please check your circuit breaker panel first. For further assistance, please call 828-264-3671, option 2, then option 9. After-hours calls are forwarded to App PD for dispatch. We want to thank everyone for your patience and support as our crews worked through heat — and later on a thunderstorm — to restore power. As always, thank you to the NRLP crews for all they do to keep our community powered.

⚡Update: 4:45 p.m.: Crews continue to work to restore power. Replacement of the damaged pole and transformer has been completed and power was temporarily restored to the outage area. However, storm activity may have caused an additional issue resulting in a continued power outage in the same area as well as four additional customers. Please see outage map below for updated areas of outages. Our crews will continue to work until power is restored. There is no estimated time of restoration available currently. Thank you for your patience and support.

⚡Update 3:30 p.m.: Crews continue to work to restore power to affected customers. The cause of the broken pole was a very large tree down on a power line. Restoration time is estimated to be 4:30 p.m.

⚡Outage Alert
We are aware of an outage today, Thursday, May 21, at approximately 1:40 p.m. in the East King St area of Boone near Farthing St. and Hillcrest Cir. Cause of the outage is a broken utility pole. Please use caution in the area. NRLP crews are on site. We appreciate your patience and support!

Estimated time of restoration is 4 p.m.

💡Update: The Energy Emergency Alert issued earlier today has been lifted as of 8:30 p.m, and grid conditions have returned to normal.

Thank you to our customers for helping conserve energy during this period of high demand. Your efforts helped support grid reliability across our region.

NRLP remains committed to providing safe, reliable electric service to our community.

Alert details issued at approximately 3 p.m.:
💡Energy Conservation Encouraged

NRLP is participating in an Energy Emergency Alert issued by Duke Energy.

There is no impact to service, and customers can help by making small, voluntary energy-saving choices.

Adjusting your thermostat up by a few degrees or waiting to run large appliances later in the evening or night can make a difference for our community.
