As we enter Energy Awareness Month, it's vital to remember the challenges faced by low-income families during the colder months. At WAMY Community Action, our mission is to break the cycle of poverty by providing essential support to those in need. Our Bridges Program offers heat assistance to families struggling with rising energy costs. We invite you to read our 2025-2026 Annual Report, showcasing how your contributions have impacted over 700 individuals last year. Together, we can continue to make a difference.

Three years ago, one of Allison Jennings’ five-year goals was to have the opportunity to teach a session on fundraising. This week, that goal became a reality!

As WAMY’s Director of Philanthropy, Allison had the opportunity to teach a fundraising session at the Southeastern Association of Community Action Agencies conference in Charleston, SC. We couldn’t be prouder to see her professional growth, dedication, and passion for her work come full circle.

Sometimes, the goals we write down seem far away, but with hard work, determination, and a heart for what you do, those dreams become reality. Allison, we are so proud of you and grateful for all you do to help WAMY continue making a difference in the communities we serve!

Here’s to setting goals, reaching milestones, and continuing to grow!

When one of us hurts, we all do.

It is with deep sadness that we are sharing the sudden passing of April's son, Kenrick.

Kenrick was a joy to know - kind, funny, and smart are just a handful of words to describe him. The wonderful son of a community minded mother.

During this difficult time, we are calling on the community to help us lift April up and support her. If you would like to join us in this effort, we are accepting donations on her behalf. 100% funds received will go directly to support April during this time with bills, funeral costs, and any other needs she may have.

If you feel led to give, you can donate on our website or mail cash/check and dedicate the donation to April or Kenrick Beck. https://wamycommunityaction.org/?form=doublethedonation

Or you can donate to Spruce Pine United Methodist Church, letting them know that it is for April.

October is Community Action Energy Awareness Month, and we're celebrating a program that helps families stay warm, safe, and less worried about their utility bills. 🏡
Weatherization makes homes more energy efficient through upgrades like insulation, heating and cooling repairs, and sealing air leaks. Since the program began in 1976, more than seven million households nationwide have received Weatherization services.
The results add up. Families who receive Weatherization save an average of $372 or more every year on utility costs. That money can go toward groceries, medicine, or a car repair instead of a high energy bill.
At WAMY Community Action, our Weatherization team helps neighbors across Watauga, Avery, Mitchell, and Yancey counties lower their energy costs and stay comfortable all year.
