The 8-hr SFST Refresher course is designed to improve the administration and overall consistency of the Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) Battery.

The Texas SFST & DRE Program provides FREE TxDOT grant funded training to Texas peace officers, prosecutors, and magistrates focused on impaired driving enforcement and detection to reduce alcohol and drug related crashes, injuries, and deaths. The Texas Standardized Field Sobriety Testing (SFST) and Advanced DWI Investigation and Enforcement Training Program offers a FREE TCOLE credited courses.

8-hour SFST Refresher (TCOLE 2177; 2178)
*24-hour SFST Practitioner (TCOLE 2067)
*50-hour SFST Instructor (TCOLE 1016)
8-hour Advanced DWI Investigation & Enforcement (TCOLE 3402)

*Training includes two (2) alcohol workshops (aka “wet labs”) per course. The Texas SFST Program is funded by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) in an effort to give Texas Peace Officers, prosecutors and judges access to this important training free of cost. Texas SFST & DRE Program staff instructors Kevin Glass and Yancy Green presented the 24 Hour SFST Practitioner Course to Harris County Constable, Precinct 4 deputies this week. Just because you have taken the 24 hour course before doesn't mean you cannot go through it again. We concluded our first SFST Instructor School for the grant year in Killeen this week with fifteen new SFST instructors now equipped to bring their knowledge, experience, and newly acquired skills to Texas officers. It's day three of our DRE School hosted by the Jersey Village Police Department. DRE instructors, Ryan Musil and Travis Trotti present the Physiology and Drugs session. We have 23 participants, representing 13 different agencies in attendance.

It was a pleasure to welcome Britt to speak at our Cedar Park DRE school this week. Her inspiring story of recovery turned advocacy served to strengthen the DRE candidates' resolve to continue the fight to end impaired driving. We welcome her to Texas and are glad to have her as a partner and supporter.

People may ask, was this a lack of training, a lack of confidence in the training they had, or a poor attitude toward impaired driving enforcement? While not making guesses in this case, we can say that our training programs address all three issues.

Our free, TxDOT grant funded training provides officers with the skills, confidence, and abilities to recognize and investigate impairment to prevent tragedies such as this. All of this is done through our cadre of experienced instructors who set the tone as mentors and positive advocates for the relentless pursuit of the impaired driver.
