🎉 Here’s to 45 years of the Tenant Farmers Association!

Thousands of consultations. A true testament to the progress and support delivered for tenant farmers across England and Wales.

From securing IHT threshold increases to appointing England’s first ever Commissioner for the tenant farming sector, the TFA has been fighting your corner every step of the way, and we’re not stopping here.

Shorter tenancies. Declining FBT numbers. Unfair compensation. These are challenges we refuse to walk away from, and we will continue to push for the change that tenant farmers deserve.

To every one of our members, we would like to thank you. Your ongoing trust is what allows us to show up, speak up, and keep doing this work.

And yes! That is a very young George you’ve spotted in these iconic pictures (see last picture!) 😀

❗️With just days to go, Tenant Farmers Association members are encouraged to secure their place for what promises to be a highly practical and informative evening, register now - https://bit.ly/TFA_May26_Reg

🗓️ Wednesday 20 May @ 7pm

➡️ We welcome newly appointed TFA Recommended Solicitor, Harry Russell of Roythornes, who brings first hand experience in farm partnership disputes including a family farming partnership case involving assets of around £70 million, settled after litigation in the High Court and arbitration. Few speakers could better illustrate just how much can be at stake.

⛓️ Many farming operations involve some form of partnership; often between family members, ranging from informal understandings to fully documented agreements. Whatever the setup, all are governed by the Partnership Act 1890 and all carry the potential for costly disputes.

✔️ Harry will cover what can go wrong, how a written agreement can help and the complications that arise when a partnership sits within an agricultural tenancy.

⏰ The session lasts one hour and includes a live Q&A. It will begin promptly at 7pm - advance registration is essential.

🚜 Five generations on the same farm and still looking to the future…

Last week, we were invited by the Gray family for a tour around their farm in Hampshire. The Gray family are long standing TFA supporters and tenants of the Church Commissioners.
Former TFA Chair, James Grey gave us a farm tour, allowing us to spend time on the ground to see first hand the work our tenant farmers do every day.

The Church Commissioners owned holding has been in the hands of the Gray family since 1899. More recently, farmed by James since 1996 and now transitioning to the next generation as his son, Tom steps forward.

As James explains:

“Part of the reason we have such a good relationship with the Church [Commissioners] is that TFA CEO, George Dunn, makes a point of making contact with institutional landlords at least once a year.

We have a very good relationship with our landlords, but if it wasn’t for the Tenant Farmers Association, I’m not sure we would understand each other as well as we do.”

It was a beautiful day, a lovely farm tour and it was a good reminder of how hard theTenant Farmers Association works to support and protect their members.

We are proud to stand with tenant farmers, generation after generation.

Here at the TFA, we’ve been able to help many tenant farmers throughout the years, including Amanda - who is one of our Executive committee members.

Amanda has been a member for many years alongside her late father and grandfather and throughout that time we’ve managed to help her through tenancy succession issues and more.

She’s still farming and now owns one of her farms thanks to our help, and she continues to be a member of the Tenant Farmers Association knowing we are there on hand to help when she needs us.

We’re going to telling Amanda’s story in more detail soon, but in the meantime, if you want to know more about us and what we do to help the tenanted sector of agriculture, please visit our website - www.tfa.org
