“This has been a farm-blind Budget.”

The Tenant Farmers Association (TFA) is deeply disappointed that the Government has not taken forward any of the changes it proposed to support secure tenancies, productive investment and resilient farm businesses.

TFA Chief Executive, George Dunn, also said the lack of movement on Inheritance Tax, Agricultural Property Relief and Stamp Duty Land Tax is “another major missed opportunity for the farming industry.”

The DEFRA Farming Roadmap will shape agriculture in England through to 2050, but what will it mean for farmers?
Join us this on Wednesday 21 October at 7pm for a free webinar to find out: "Where is the DEFRA Farming Roadmap Taking Farming and How Will We Know When We Have Arrived?"

Mike Rowe, Director General for Food and Farming at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), will be our guest speaker and he will be joined by TFA Farm Policy Adviser, Lynette Steel, and Rural Payments Agency (RPA) Grants Service Owner, Tom Foster, for a live Q&A, hosted by TFA National Chair, Robert Martin.

The hour-long event starts at 7pm on Zoom and offers attendees the rare chance to put their questions directly to DEFRA in a live Q&A.

TFA Chief Executive, George Dunn, said: “With many missing out on the Sustainable Farming Incentive scheme this year, and facing a financial hole in their farm budget as a result, legitimate questions are being asked about DEFRA’s commitment to the recently produced Farming Roadmap and its aspiration to create sustainable and resilient farm businesses into the long term. Indeed, many are beginning to question whether the concept of public payments for public goods is wearing thin too. This webinar will provide TFA members with exclusive access to DEFRA’s internal thinking on all of this and the opportunity to ask the burning questions that matter most to grassroots farmers.”

Our new Access to Finance survey found that half of all respondents need to borrow more just to keep their businesses going.

🏠 the extent tenant farmers are losing land to development without adequate compensation

This is an example of the work that the TFA does every day as it takes the concerns of its members and the wider tenanted sector to the highest levels of Government.
