This week is Year 8 'Make a Mark' week! ✨

Each tutor group has made a decision on an activity they will complete to make their mark on the community.

Today, 8SMA held a Tuck Shop at lunchtime in aid of Cancer Research UK and 8KEL completed some weeding in the Little Heath Haven garden ready for some vegetables to be planted this month.

Both tutor groups did a fantastic job! We look forward to showing you what the other groups get up to later this week.

🚨🚨 HOUSE COMPETITION 🚨🚨

Each day, during one of their lessons, students are asked to 'Drop Everything And Read' for 20 minutes - we call it DEAR time. Reading everyday not only improves reading ability, but promotes vocabulary growth, enhances comprehension skills and fosters a love of books! 📖

We have introduced a new praise point which can be awarded for DEAR time engagement. Throughout June, students in Year 7 and Year 8 will be encouraged to get as many DEAR praise points as possible for our House competition - Pages for Points! 📚

The competition starts this Monday so make sure you are ready to read! Ensure you have a book with you, or why not pop along to the library to find yourself a new reading challenge this month. 📕

In February this year, six brilliant Year 12 students took part in the Lessons from Auschwitz Project Holocaust Educational Trust (UK) - LFA Project. This involved a commitment to take part in seminars, research and education about the Holocaust and its legacies today, but also visit Auschwitz and complete a reflection and Next Steps project.

The students are now supporting Holocaust education within the school by coming in to Year 8 History lessons who have started the topic.

These students have conducted themselves with consideration, thoughtfulness and compassion for an important and upsetting part of the past. A huge well done to Flossie, Tess, Leo, Riley, Ellie and Alexander, we're really proud of them! A big thank you to Mr Herring too, who has supported these students through the project.
