12 hours later and back home from Council!
My team and I debated some important issues today in Council - things like housing affordability, ensuring council infrastructure keeps up with development, more support for community clubs and making local jobs secure with Council.
We also debated a motion I brought calling on the Lord Mayor to properly fund community development teams in Council. We used to have these teams, working in the community to ensure people are part of decision making in Council. These days there are just 4 staff left to support over 1.3 million people in Brisbane! Not surprisingly, the LNP didn’t support this idea, saying the status quo is OK…
We also found out the Lord Mayor’s claims of record numbers of potholes being filled was all made up, with figures released showing there were over 10,000 less filled this year than last!
The Lord Mayor managed just two hours again today in the meeting, heading off at the first break, missing most of the debate and voted 🙄
