Last week, our community came together to commemorate National Sorry Day at the Winnam’s National Sorry Day Ceremony, reflecting on the strength, resilience and stories of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, while honouring the Stolen Generations and their families.

A heartfelt thank you to the students from Wynnum State High School, Moreton Bay Girls' College, Iona College, Lourdes Hill College and St John Vianney's Primary School for delivering such beautiful and thoughtful speeches. Your words were inspiring and a powerful reminder of the importance of truth-telling, healing and reconciliation.

We are deeply grateful to the Brisbane City Council Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Team for sponsoring this important event and helping bring our community together.

A very special mention to Kiara from Wynnum State High School, who did an outstanding job as our deadly MC. Your confidence, warmth and professionalism helped make the event truly memorable. Thank you to Wynnum State High School for their moving Welcome to Country dance performance, as well as Cameron delivering Welcome to Country which set a respectful and meaningful tone for the ceremony.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Councillor Givney, Joan Pease MP and Carley Daniels, representing Kara Cook MP, for their thoughtful addresses and ongoing support of our community.

A huge thank you to Ampol for generously cooking the community BBQ, and to Blade Nutley for sharing his incredible talent through an amazing didgeridoo performance. Thank you also to the Rich Pour Coffee team for keeping everyone warm with delicious coffee throughout the morning.

Most importantly, thank you to every community member who attended. It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout, demonstrating our collective commitment to remembrance, respect, reconciliation and community connection.

Together, we continue to walk forward, acknowledging the past and working towards a more united future 🖤💛❤️
