Day 3 complete and the official QPS baton es**rt team have arrived in Sydney.

The day started with a bucket list tour of Mt Panorama after linking up with NSWPA Exec Peter Forman and local HWP Officer S/C Daniel Cooper.

Plenty of riders took the opportunity to discuss riding technique and safety with the QLD team.

It was also the ‘mountain’ swan song for Snr Sgt Bradyn Murphy on his W2W wrapped QPS bike.

Prep underway now for a Sydney memorial service before a motorcade run to Canberra Saturday morning.

Day 2 of Wall to Wall Ride for Police Remembrance is complete and all riders so far have reported arriving safe at their nominated accomodation.

A huge day in the saddle for many riding from Grafton to Bathurst.

A couple of mech issues and a few minor incidents with loose gravel but no injuries logged.

Huge thanks to the South Grafton Rebels for providing a substantial breakfast for the participants before heading off and of course the NSWPolice es**rt out of town.

Wall to Wall Day 1 complete and all riders have at this stage reported they’ve arrived safely at their accommodation.

The baton ceremony in Brisbane was well attended and there was deserved recognition for long time ride co-ordinators Snr Sgt Andrew Frick (Ret) and soon to retire Snr Sgt Bradyn Murphy.

Great to see the instigator of National Police Remembrance Day and the inspiration for the W2W ride concept John ‘Bluey’ O’Gorman leading the way again to Canberra.

The days ‘war stories’ are being told in vivid detail at rider supported functions.

Queensland riders depart today as part of the annual Wall to Wall ride for Police Remembrance.

Thankfully, the Queensland baton this year will not contain the names of any officers killed in the line of duty over the past 12 months.

While the ceremony in the Brisbane City Botanic Gardens at the Police Memorial at 9am will be solemn it’s also an occasion for colleagues to reunite, share their experiences and mix with retired officers.

The riders head south reaching Canberra on Saturday for a memorial service at the National Police Memorial.

Constable Michael Howard, who was stationed at Kilcoy Police Station, died in a traffic incident on Jimna Range Road.

With Honour he served.

Today we remember Constable Archibald Ralph Muir of the Innisfail Police Station. Constable Muir was killed after his utility crashed into a concrete pillar on the approach to Ash Shay’s Bridge.

For some of our members, this will be their very first Father's Day.

For others, it marks decades of celebrations and perhaps now includes the special privilege of enjoying the day as a grandfather.

For dads in blended families, Father’s Day holds its own special meaning too, recognising the role you play, the example you set and the family you help build.

Policing asks a lot of families. It means missed dinners, weekends, birthdays and special occasions, even Father's Day.

QPU President Shane Prior and the entire QPU Executive understand those demands and sincerely hope Father’s Day 2026 is a memorable one for every police dad, stepdad and grandfather.

Most importantly, we hope you spend some time with the people who believe in you, are proud of the job you do and appreciate the protection you provide, not only to your own family, but to families right across Queensland.

The Queensland Police Union joins serving and retired police across our state in mourning the passing of former Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski.

Steve dedicated his life to policing and serving the Queensland community, rising through the ranks to lead the organisation he had given so much to.

Today, rank and titles take a back seat. We remember a fellow police officer and extend our deepest sympathy to Steve’s wife, family, friends and colleagues.

Rest in peace, Mr Gollschewski. Your service is done.

Queensland’s workplace safety watchdog has acted on evidence based reports from the QPU and has issued multiple regulatory notices to the QPS following inspections across the state.

These notices are not about paperwork. They are about the health, safety and wellbeing of our members and the people in custody.

The QPU’s formal complaint highlighted severe overcrowding, unsafe staffing levels, poor ventilation, hygiene concerns, ageing infrastructure, unreliable CCTV and a lack of essential safety measures.

No police officer should be expected to work in conditions that put their safety at risk. No person in custody should be housed in facilities that fail to meet basic standards.

These are not isolated issues. They are systemic problems that require urgent action, proper investment and a genuine commitment to fixing long-standing deficiencies.

The QPU has long warned about the growing threat posed by illicit fi****ms, and the latest Channel 9 report on the R***r Charger highlights why action is needed.

While legislative reform is important, enforcement is only as effective as the resources behind it. The QPU has repeatedly raised concerns about the chronic understaffing of the QPS Illicit Fi****ms Team, with just four officers currently dedicated to targeting illegal fi****ms across Queensland as fi***rm related threats continue to grow.

We are also renewing our calls for the National Fi****ms Register to be fast tracked. Following the Wieambilla tragedy, the QPU advocated strongly for a nationally integrated system that allows police to track the ownership and movement of fi****ms across state borders in real time.

Properly resourcing specialist fi****ms investigators and delivering the National Fi****ms Register are practical measures that will make Queensland safer for both police and the community.
