Hydrologic modeling plays an important part in groundwater management 📊 for the Pajaro Valley.

Because of climate variability, increasing population and agriculture changing over time, using a hydrologic model creates a more accurate assessment of groundwater conditions and processes that can be used to improve planning for long-term sustainability of groundwater resources.

With El Niño conditions forecast for the months ahead, now is a good time to consider a rainwater catchment system to capture some of that water. 🌧️

PV Water offers a 30-cent-per-gallon rebate for rainwater catchment systems, up to $1,200. Capturing rainwater can help reduce reliance on other water supplies and put rainfall to use around your property.

Recycled water plays an important role in the Pajaro Valley, providing growers with an alternative to pumping groundwater for irrigation. đź’¦

Each year, millions of gallons of water are treated and delivered to growers for use on agricultural lands — helping support the region’s agricultural economy while reducing reliance on groundwater.

Seawater intrusion is one of the key challenges facing groundwater in the Pajaro Valley. It occurs when salt water moves into freshwater aquifers, often as a result of groundwater overdraft and other factors.

PV Water tracks the extent of seawater intrusion across the Pajaro Valley and is working to address it through groundwater management actions and water supply projects.

How does PV Water work toward sustainable groundwater management in the Pajaro Valley? It takes more than one approach.

đź’¬ Community input helps inform decisions about the basin and the people who depend on it.
📊 Groundwater levels and water quality are monitored to track conditions and guide updates to the Basin Management Plan.
💦 Water supply projects, including the Recycled Water Facility and College Lake Project, help diversify and strengthen the region’s water supplies.

Together, these efforts support long-term groundwater management in the Pajaro Valley. Learn more: https://www.pvwater.org/sgm
