Be careful when traveling today!

⚠️ 𝐅𝐥𝐚𝐬𝐡 𝐅𝐥𝐨𝐨𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐑𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐫 ⚠️

We received a heck of a lot of rain this morning, and there are areas across the county where water is covering or beginning to cover roadways.

This photo was taken near the Traer airport, but it serves as a good reminder that conditions can change quickly after heavy rain.

If you come across water over a roadway, don’t drive through it. You may not know how deep it is, how fast it’s moving, or whether the road underneath has been damaged or washed out.

Turn around and find another route.

A few extra minutes is a lot better than a damaged vehicle, getting stuck, or putting yourself and others at risk.

Mountain, or near Marshalltown, moving southeast at 45 mph.

THIS IS A DESTRUCTIVE STORM with 90 plus mph winds!.

HAZARD...90 mph wind gusts and penny size hail.

SOURCE...Radar indicated.

IMPACT...You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris
may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile
homes will be heavily damaged or destroyed. Homes and
businesses will have substantial roof and window damage.
Expect extensive tree damage and power outages.

* Locations impacted include...
Marshalltown, Toledo, Tama, Brooklyn, Meskwaki Casino, Le Grand,
Victor, Garwin, Holiday Lake, Chelsea, Montour, Elberon, Ferguson,
Green Mountain, Hartwick, Guernsey, Vining, Toledo Municipal
Airport, Union Grove State Park, and Otter Creek Lake and Park.

This includes Interstate 80 between mile markers 198 and 204.

Two rounds of storms appear possible on Wednesday, with the highest risk in southeast Iowa during the afternoon. There remains some uncertainty if storms can develop, but if they do they could pose a threat for large hail, damaging wind gusts, heavy rain, and a tornado or two. Prior to that, storms on Wednesday morning in northern Iowa could pose a threat for strong wind gusts and maybe some hail. Confidence in storms occurring Wednesday morning is much higher, but there remains uncertainty in the intensity of the storms early Wednesday. Stay weather aware and monitor the forecast for updates!

Thunderstorms developing over Nebraska will move into Iowa this morning. Gusty winds and hail could occur with a few storms. Additional storms will develop this afternoon. Strong to severe storms are possible after 3 pm south of Interstate 80. Large hail, damaging winds and heavy rainfall are all possible along with an isolate tornado.
