You don't have to build an emergency kit all at once.

Start with the basics:
πŸ’§ Water
πŸ₯« Nonperishable food
πŸ”¦ Flashlight
πŸ”‹ Extra batteries
πŸ“» Battery-powered or hand-crank radio
πŸ’Š Medications
πŸ“± Phone charger

Add a few items each shopping trip, and before you know it, you'll be prepared when you need it most.

πŸ“’ Let's talk about Outdoor Warning Sirens! πŸ“’
Did you know that outdoor warning sirens are exactly thatβ€”for the OUTDOORS? 🌳 They are designed to warn people who are outside to seek immediate shelter. You are not guaranteed to hear them inside your house!
Also, sirens aren't just for tornadoes πŸŒͺ️; local agencies can also sound them for other severe weather threats like destructive winds (70+ mph) or golf-ball-sized hail.
Remember: When you hear the siren, go inside, take shelter, and tune into local media or a weather radio for details. Find out more about how sirens work in Iowa at www.ready.iowa.gov!

Do you know the difference between a watch and a warning?

A WATCH πŸ‘€ means that potential exists for severe weather. While no action is required other than staying alert, a WARNING ⚠️ requires immediate action & should be taken seriously.
