Southern Kent County is under a tornado warning. If that storm continues on its current path, the extreme southern part of our county will be in its path. Pay attention and be ready to seek shelter. We don’t need any more TikTok heroes. We need alive, uninjured people.

The latest is that the storm is expect to arrive in the panhandle shortly after 9. East County Line not quite an hour later. We are also under a tornado watch until 2am as of the middle of typing this as well.

Lots of talk about potential weather tonight. Here’s what we know as of now. It’s expected to hit the shoreline between 8-10 tonight. The farther east it gets, the weaker it should be. We are enhanced risk, which is a 3 out 5 on the scale. We have a ~30% chance of big wind, ~5% chance of hail, and ~5% chance of a nader. Rain forecasts are 0.5”-1.5” depending on east or west part of the county. We have ~15% chance of flooding. This is all as of the 1pm webinar. The closer it gets, the more accurate the info will be. The evening news should give everyone a better idea of what is likely to happen tonight. Stay safe and check on your neighbors.

Today begins National EMS Week 2026. This week we don’t celebrate, as there’s no time for celebration in EMS. The call never stops. So this week we recognize. We recognize those who answer the call. No matter the day, no matter the time, no matter the weather, they answer the call. Often being inserted into the worst day of someone’s life. Often a complete stranger. Yet they answer the call. While we recognize them this week, they answer the call all year long. So please don’t forget them next week. Think of them, encourage them, tip one back for them, and pray for them. Their safety, their skill, their knowledge. Hopefully no one needs to make that call, but if you do, rest assured, EMS will answer the call. To all EMS professionals across the land, and especially the best that make up MCES, we thank you.

The damage assessment (state, federal, SBA)was completed today. All data will be compiled and forwarded to the appropriate agencies for next steps. The USDA has programs specific to agriculture related damage, so be looking for someone to reach out in the future from them for ag related damage. The county, MSP, and FEMA focus on primary living areas. SBA focuses on non-ag related businesses.

To the amazing lady with the warm chocolate chip cookies on a freezing cold, very windy day, we all love you.
