Today begins National EMS Week 2026. This week we don’t celebrate, as there’s no time for celebration in EMS. The call never stops. So this week we recognize. We recognize those who answer the call. No matter the day, no matter the time, no matter the weather, they answer the call. Often being inserted into the worst day of someone’s life. Often a complete stranger. Yet they answer the call. While we recognize them this week, they answer the call all year long. So please don’t forget them next week. Think of them, encourage them, tip one back for them, and pray for them. Their safety, their skill, their knowledge. Hopefully no one needs to make that call, but if you do, rest assured, EMS will answer the call. To all EMS professionals across the land, and especially the best that make up MCES, we thank you.

The damage assessment (state, federal, SBA)was completed today. All data will be compiled and forwarded to the appropriate agencies for next steps. The USDA has programs specific to agriculture related damage, so be looking for someone to reach out in the future from them for ag related damage. The county, MSP, and FEMA focus on primary living areas. SBA focuses on non-ag related businesses.

To the amazing lady with the warm chocolate chip cookies on a freezing cold, very windy day, we all love you.

Attention Carson City area peeps with tornado damage…The local damage assessment was completed and submitted the Friday and Saturday after the storm. We just learned state and federal teams will be doing their damage assessment this week. That essentially means confirming the local assessment and looking for new damage that wasn’t previously known. They are hoping to start Wednesday. Teams will be made up of a state damage assessment person, a state police lieutenant, a FEMA damage assessment person, a federal Small Business Administration Disaster Assistance person, and a local person you have likely seen before. Please share this with anyone in the affected area.

Damage assessment teams will be in the area assessing tornado damage again today. It may or may not be completed today. So it’s very possible they may be out again tomorrow to hopefully finish.

Here is a brief update on the tornado recovery. Damage assessment teams will be in the area starting tomorrow morning. We are also working on debris management. We are working on locations and times storm debris can be taken. We will post times and locations once they are finalized. If anyone has any immediate unmet needs, calling 211 is available 24/7.

If you are not there to help, please stay away.
