Now's the perfect time to start cleaning out your garage, shed, or property before fall.
Calhoun County's free Scrap Tire Collection events are coming soon:
📍 Marshall – Sept. 25 (pre-registration required)
📍 Tekonsha – Oct. 26
Each Calhoun County resident may bring up to 10 passenger vehicle tires at no cost.
Marshall participants should register in advance at https://arcg.is/05Pim or by calling 269-969-6395.

Wondering what you can bring to the Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event on Monday, September 14?
⚠️ Hazardous waste items include oil-based paints, cleaners, propane cylinders, meds, etc…
📝 Check out these tips when gathering your waste:
• Empty containers can be thrown away.
• Latex paint is not hazardous. Tips on drying it up are available on our website.
• Please separate paint cans from the rest of your items.
• Pack your items so they stay upright.
• Use tarps and leak-proof plastic totes or buckets to prevent spills in your vehicle.
• Please label all items that are not in their original packaging.

🚨 SCAM ALERT: “Missed Jury Duty” and Warrant Scams 🚨

The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office is once again warning residents about an ongoing scam involving missed jury duty and supposed warrants for arrest.

Scammers may claim you missed jury duty, failed to respond to a subpoena, or have a warrant for your arrest. They may use official-sounding language, local information, names of law enforcement agencies, and even official-looking paperwork to make the scam seem legitimate.

Don’t fall for it. Courts and law enforcement will not call and demand immediate payment to avoid arrest, nor will they ask you to pay with gift cards, cryptocurrency, wire transfers, or payment apps.

If you receive a call like this:

• Hang up immediately.
• Do not provide personal or financial information.
• Do not send money.
• Do not use any number the caller provides.
• Instead, verify by calling the non-emergency line directly at 269-781-0911.

👥 Scammers rely on fear and urgency to get people to act before they have time to think. Even if a caller knows local information or provides paperwork that looks official, stop and verify independently.

Even if you would recognize a scam, someone you know might not. Talk with parents, friends, and older neighbors, and share this post to help protect others in our community.
