Southern Pines Police Department Law Enforcement Agency As we are in our second century of service, we recognize and respect those tragedies of our early past.

From the Town of Southern Pines’ quiet beginnings on March 7th, 1887, with a population of fifty and in a time when the only law and order was a Justice of the Peace, the Southern Pines Police Department has emerged into what it is today: a modern, self-sufficient, full service law enforcement organization that is a model for others to emulate. The early portions of our department’s history were m

arred by some tragedies and included the presence of two departments (Southern Pines and West Southern Pines). Since then, our Police Department has progressively evolved by bringing technological advances to the forefront, providing highly qualified personnel who promote an efficient, well-run organization while maintaining strong ties that we share with the community we serve. As the evolution of our department has progressed from that first car, that first radio, that first computer, our proudest accomplishments have come from bringing in unique and knowledgeable people into our family, providing them the opportunities and training few departments our size can match, and meeting the needs and experiencing the successes our department exhibits today. We have always worked with our community and the citizens, and continue to do so, through our emphasis on the importance of relationships and with ongoing community outreach programs. In doing so we continue to strive to learn and grow in the present and to have those that will follow us in the future will be proud of our efforts and dedication we put forth today. The Southern Pines Police Department serves a community of approximately 17,400 citizens. The department consists of approximately 55 sworn, non-sworn and volunteer personnel, all of whom are dedicated to the enforcement of law and improving the quality of life in the Town of Southern Pines through a dedicated focus on public safety.

The Southern Pines Police Department requests the public's assistance in locating Yordy Palacios (23).

Yordi was last seen on August 26, 2026, around 10:00 pm at 128 N. Carlisle St. Southern Pines.

He was last seen wearing a Navy Blue top and bottom that resembled medical scrubs.

Yordi is 5 feet 6 inches tall, weighs 150 pounds, and has black hair and brown eyes. Yordi has distinguishing tattoos on his face and neck.

🚨WARNING🚨

Please be advised that the area of Felton Capel Ln. adjacent to the Pinecrest High School practice field is a NO PARKING ZONE. This designation and instillation of signage was implemented by NC DOT and deemed necessary for the safety of students and the motoring public. As a new school year begins, the Southern Pines Police Department will begin issuance of WARNING tickets to individuals who park in the NO PARKING ZONE for a short period of time. Please be advised that for repeat offenders, officers will begin issuing uniform citations for those who disregard the warning, continue to disregard the signs and choose to park in the restricted areas.

This message is intended to provide complete transparency to the public and issued as a warning.

Reservoir Park is closed!

⚠ Due to upcoming maintenance at Reservoir Park beginning Tuesday, August 25th, access to portions of the park are currently limited. Maintenance work includes Reservoir Park Rd, the parking lot, and the bridge, which means visitors will not be able to access the complete park loop at this time.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while maintenance work is underway. Please use caution around the affected areas and follow any posted signage.

The Southern Pines Public Library is temporarily closed until further notice due to a water leak within the building. At this time, we anticipate a short-term closure and expect to provide an updated reopening timeline, along with information about programs scheduled for the week of August 10, early next week.

While the building is closed, our online Library services remain available 24/7:

🚒 SPARK 24/7 Library Kiosk: Located in front of Fire Station 82 at 7850 NC-22, the kiosk is stocked with more than 200 items for adults and children.

📚 Libby: Borrow ebooks, audiobooks, magazines, and more through the Libby app or at sopinesnc.info/e-catalog.

📲 Online Resources: Access more than 100 databases and digital resources at sopinesnc.info/SPPLonline.

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. — The Town of Southern Pines is in the final phase of its move to the new Town Hall, marking a major milestone with the first Town Council meeting and a community open house scheduled next week.

Town Council will hold its first meeting in the newly renovated Council Chambers on Tuesday, August 11, 2026, at 6:00 p.m. All future Town Council meetings and select advisory board meetings will be held at Town Hall, providing residents with a modern and accessible space to participate in local government.

Meeting attendees will enter the Council Chambers on the ground floor from the rear parking lot. Additional on-street parking is available on W. Massachusetts Avenue and SW Broad Street.

The community is also invited to the Town Hall Open House on Thursday, August 13, from 4:00–7:00 p.m. This family-friendly, drop-in event will offer a behind-the-scenes look at Town Hall, interactive activities, opportunities to meet Councilmembers and Town staff, and a chance to learn more about the services provided by Town departments.

The Inspections Department is also relocating to Town Hall from the Community Development facility this week, marking the completion of staff relocations associated with the new facility. As part of these transitions, the Parks & Recreation Department has moved from the second floor of the Campbell House to the Community Development Building at 801 SE Service Road.

“This is an exciting milestone for Southern Pines” offers Town Manager Reagan Parsons. “We have received positive feedback from residents and customers who have already visited Town Hall to do business. Moving Council meetings into the new Chambers is a significant step in this exciting project. I want to thank our staff and contractors for their thoughtful input and diligence in creating a modern, accessible facility that further enables us to continue providing the high-quality services our community expects.”
