⛳ Arizona VGA Rule of the Week: Red Penalty Area Relief

Your bunker shot flies across the green and enters a red penalty area on the other side. Where can you take relief?

For one penalty stroke, you have three options:

⛳️Back-on-the-line relief: Drop outside the penalty area on the line extending from the hole through the point where the ball last crossed the red edge.

⛳️Stroke-and-distance relief: Return to the location of your previous stroke. In this example, that means dropping back in the bunker.

⛳️Lateral relief: Drop within two club-lengths of the last crossing point, outside the same penalty area and no nearer the hole.

Remember: two club-lengths does not mean you can automatically drop anywhere beside the water. The drop must satisfy every part of Rule 17.1d. In the visual, only the shaded green slice is a legal lateral relief area.

Always follow any designated drop-zone or Local Rule posted by the Committee.

⛳ The 2026 VGA West Regional Championship at Pumpkin Ridge is officially in the books!

Although Arizona will not have a player advancing to Nationals this year, we are proud of everyone who represented our state and competed on two incredibly challenging courses. Congratulations to all the West Regional flight champions! We will be cheering you on as you advance to the VGA National Championship in Biloxi, Mississippi, this October!

A new VGA Arizona season begins next month, bringing another year of tournaments, competition, camaraderie, and another opportunity to return to Pumpkin Ridge and conquer Ghost Creek and Witch Hollow!

A heartfelt thank-you to the entire Pumpkin Ridge staff for hosting us and providing an exceptional championship experience. We also extend our sincere appreciation to the VGA leaders and volunteers whose hard work and dedication made this event possible.

⛳️🇺🇸 The 2026 VGA West Regional Championship is officially underway at the beautiful Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in Oregon!

Veterans and family members from across the West have gathered for an incredible championship filled with competition, camaraderie, and the shared bonds that make the Veterans Golf Association so special.

⛳🇺🇸 What an incredible day at the Arizona VGA State Championship at Ventana Canyon Golf Club!

The Arizona sun certainly tested us, but our veterans, families, and supporters proved that a little heat is no match for great golf and even greater camaraderie. Thank you to everyone who came out, competed, and helped make this another memorable VGA event.

Congratulations to all of our Flight Champions who earned their place at the VGA West Regional Championship at Pumpkin Ridge Golf Club in North Plains, Oregon, on August 24, 2026. Good luck to everyone as you represent Arizona or your state on the regional stage!

On a personal note, I want to sincerely thank the Arizona VGA state leadership team for selecting me, Penny Jefferson, as the Arizona State Player of the Year. I am truly honored and humbled by this recognition. It means so much to be part of this incredible organization and community.

As we look ahead, let’s remember why we play. It is not only about the scorecard or the trophies. It is about the friendships we build, the joy of being together, supporting one another, and creating memories that last far beyond 18 holes.

Play hard. Laugh often. Encourage one another. And above all else, have fun!

Huge thank you to everyone who came out to Verrado Victory Golf Course in Arizona on July 5, 2026 for another great Arizona VGA event.

The summer heat definitely showed up, but so did our golfers. Everyone endured the Arizona temps, stayed competitive, and made it a great day on the course. A special thank you to Verrado Victory Golf Course for a beautiful course and to the staff for taking such great care of our group.

Great Day 1 at Kierland Golf Course! The opening round of the VGA Arizona 3-Day Championship Series brought great competition, outstanding camaraderie, and plenty of grit as everyone battled through the heat of the day. A warm welcome to all of our out-of-state guests — we are glad to have you here with us in Arizona. Congratulations to all Day 1 flight winners!

Next up: TPC Championship Course, followed by Monday’s finale at TPC Stadium Course, home of the WM Phoenix Open / People’s Open.

Great day at AZ – Starr Pass Golf Club in Tucson for our VGA tournament!

We had 40 golfers come out to compete on the Palmer/Gambler course, enjoy the day, and celebrate another strong event with the Veteran Golfers Association. Congratulations to all of our flight winners and thank you to everyone who helped make the day a success.
