For anyone participating in the RHA Homeownership Program, it is critical to understand the employment and income requirements that apply to this program.
For working families, HUD requires at least one adult who will own the home to:
✅ Work an average of at least 30 hours per week
✅ Have maintained full-time employment for at least one year before homeownership assistance begins
✅ Meet the applicable minimum-income requirement
HUD’s minimum-income standard for most families is based on 2,000 hours of work at the federal minimum wage, which is currently $14,500 per year.
Your responsibilities may also continue after you purchase your home, so make sure you understand the requirements that apply to you.
