WPRI 12 has the story on Cumberland's stormwater upgrades to Industrial Road to address chronic flooding that had been impacting businesses and traffic in the area. Proud to support this project via a $500,000 award from our Municipal Resilience Program.

Voting on November's ballot will approve $25 million for the Resilient Rhody Infrastructure Fund to invest in similar projects across the state!

The commercial area houses more than 30 businesses and for years has been prone to severe flooding from rainstorms, which made the roadway impassable at times.

Today we joined Mayor Jeff Mutter, Senator Jack Reed, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse, and Congressman Gabe Amo to celebrate the completion of $1.7 million in stormwater improvements to Industrial Road in the Town of Cumberland.

Chronic flooding during heavy rain events has impacted the industrial park's businesses and snarled traffic along nearby Diamond Hill Road.

Thanks to a $500,000 award from our Municipal Resilience Program, Cumberland has expanded the system's overall retention capacity and implemented green infrastructure solutions to reduce stormwater runoff and improve discharge water quality.

Check out this great video from our partners at The Nature Conservancy in Rhode Island about resilience improvements at Warwick's Oakland Beach.

Using a $225,000 Municipal Resilience Program action grant, the city has implemented an innovative bio-retention basin. Additionally, a coastal buffer was reestablished and planted with native grasses and wildflowers to reduce erosion and restore pollinator habitats.

The project has successfully addressed the problem of polluted runoff; even after heavy rain, the parking lot remains dry, and untreated is prevented from entering the bay.

Woonsocket's Truman Drive Greenway project is a great example of investing in while also creating a beautiful public amenity. Funded via a $2 million Municipal Resilience Program Action Grant, the project has transformed a 4-lane, underutilized public road (Truman Drive) into a 2-lane road and linear park that incorporates green infrastructure solutions to treat stormwater runoff into the Blackstone River, while providing recreational, economic, and public health benefits to the city.

Yesterday, we toured The Conant Thread District in the City of Pawtucket - Mayor's Office and the City of Central Falls, RI where both communities have utilized $1 million in Municipal Resilience Program Action Grants to install new curbside vegetated bioretention planters along the Pine Street corridor. The planters improve while beautifying the streetscape.
