We’ve been busy making improvements to several bridges in Woonsocket, including the Diamond Hill Road Bridge that we recently reopened after its rehabilitation. The bridge carries Diamond Hill Road over the Peters River. It was built in 1926 and carries approximately 11,500 vehicles per day through the busy Diamond Hill Road corridor linking Social Street and Mendon Road. This morning, RIDOT joined highway safety leaders from the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association, South Kingstown Police Department, AAA Northeast and Universe Juice Inc to encourage safe driving over the Labor Day holiday weekend. At the event, participants, including a crash survivor from Universe Juice, rallied to remind all Rhode Islanders they can be the ones to make a difference to avoid senseless crashes from impaired driving. We wish everyone a happy and safe long weekend!

👏 Great news for roadway safety in Rhode Island!
Rhode Island’s 2026 statewide seat belt usage rate has reached 92%, surpassing the national average of 91.3% for the second year in a row.

This also marks the third consecutive year that Rhode Island’s seat belt usage rate has remained above 90%.

Thanks to all Rhode Islanders for making the simple, lifesaving choice to buckle up. 🚗

🚧 New Traffic Pattern Tonight – East Greenwich
Starting tonight, Friday, August 28, we’ll shift traffic on South County Trail (Rte. 2) over Rte. 4 onto the newly rebuilt northbound side of the bridge.
The new configuration will have one lane in each direction with a center turning lane. We’ll also temporarily relocate the Rte. 2 North on ramp to Rte. 4 South about 200 feet beyond its current location.
Please use caution and follow all signs as you travel through the new traffic pattern.
