Across Minnesota, it’s a dangerous and all-too-common sight — a driver passing a school bus with red lights flashing as the stop arm extends.

Now, the law has changed. Making the rules clearer.

Drivers must stop at least 20 feet away when a bus has flashing red lights, even if the stop arm is not yet extended.

The first violation carries a $500 fine. More importantly, it puts children at risk.

Drive safe.

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

If you’re celebrating today with alcohol, plan ahead and have a sober ride home. Don’t press your luck when it comes to drinking and driving. It’s simple: if you drink, don’t drive.

*𝘋𝘰𝘯’𝘵 𝘭𝘦𝘵 𝘧𝘳𝘪𝘦𝘯𝘥𝘴 𝘥𝘳𝘪𝘷𝘦 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘢𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘥

We will have extra officers out working to help keep everyone safe on the roadways. But it starts with you making the right choice not to drink and drive. Let’s make sure everyone gets home safely.
