Over the past two days, members of the LaGrange Fire District had the pleasure of visiting Freedom Plains Nursery School to teach the children about fire safety and fire prevention! 🧑‍🚒👩‍🚒

Each October, as part of our annual community outreach program, we visit local schools and daycares to help educate our youngest community members on the importance of fire safety. From learning about firefighters and what we do to understanding how to stay safe in an emergency, these visits are a great opportunity to help build lifelong safety habits.

A big thank you to Freedom Plains Nursery School for welcoming us and giving us the opportunity to spend time with your students!

🚒 Fire Prevention Week at the LaGrange Fire District! 🔥

Fire Prevention Week is an important reminder that fire safety starts with education and preparedness. At the LaGrange Fire District, we take that message beyond just one week and recognize the entire month of October as Fire Prevention Month!

Throughout the month, our firefighters visit local schools and daycares to provide fire prevention and safety presentations to children throughout our community. These visits give us the opportunity to teach children important lessons about fire safety, recognizing potential hazards, knowing what to do in an emergency, and the importance of having a home fire escape plan.

By starting these conversations at a young age, we hope to build lifelong safety habits and help keep our community safe. We are proud to work alongside our local schools, teachers, and childcare providers to bring these important lessons directly to the next generation.

A little education today can make a big difference tomorrow!

Today, members of the LaGrange Fire District participated in hands-on training focused on vehicle stabilization during motor vehicle accidents.

Properly stabilizing a vehicle is a critical step in extrication, helping ensure the safety of our firefighters, rescue personnel, and the patients we serve. Through continued training and teamwork, our members work to sharpen their skills and stay prepared to respond when our community needs us most.

🔥 CHIMNEY FIRE SAFETY 🔥

As we head into the heating season, the LaGrange Fire District reminds everyone who uses a wood-burning fireplace or stove to make chimney safety a priority.

🏠 Have your chimney inspected and cleaned at least once a year by a qualified professional.
🪵 Burn only seasoned hardwoods.
🚨 Install and maintain carbon monoxide detectors in your home.
🧯 Keep combustible materials away from your stove, fireplace, and chimney connector.
🔍 After a major storm or other event that could cause damage, have your chimney inspected.

A clean, properly maintained chimney can help prevent chimney fires and protect your home and family.

If you suspect a chimney fire, get everyone out of the home and call 9-1-1.

Take a moment to review the safety tips in the flyer and make chimney maintenance part of your annual home-safety routine.
