With the new school year just around the corner, it’s a great time to review your child’s required vaccinations. New York State mandates certain vaccines for school attendance, and children who aren’t up to date may be excluded. A quick record check now helps ensure a smooth start to the year.

Our Health Clinic in Poughkeepsie provides required childhood vaccines for families who qualify. Contact us by calling 845‑486‑3535 or emailing [email protected].

To see a full list of NYS school vaccine requirements visit: https://www.health.ny.gov/prevention/immunization/schools/school_vaccines/. For more information on our clinic and its offerings see: dutchessny.gov/clinics.

Wishing all students a happy, healthy school year!

Join us on Friday, Sept. 11, 2026 at 8:30 a.m. as Dutchess County marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11 on the steps of the Family Court building in Poughkeepsie. Retired FDNY Battalion Commander Keith E. Cartica will deliver the keynote address, followed by a ceremonial flag lowering and a moment of silence honoring all those lost on 9/11. This tradition, begun in 2002, continues to bring together County employees and local residents in reflection and unity. All are welcome.

September is National Food Safety Month, and our health department continues to support local food service workers through regular food safety classes. Earlier this week, we trained Poughkeepsie City School District food service staff on safe food handling practices to help keep school meals safe for students.

Our next free class for food service workers is on October 27th at 392 Creek Road in Poughkeepsie. Register today at dutchessny.gov/foodsafety.

As students get ready for the new school year, County Executive Sue Serino and Sheriff Kirk Imperati remind us all that creating a safe, welcoming, and respectful experience for kids — both in schools and on the roads — takes the whole community. They encourage parents, educators, students, and drivers to work together so every child feels supported, protected, and ready to learn all year long. One way is to observe the State traffic law that makes it illegal to pass a stopped school bus with its red lights flashing.
