The Arlington Fire District is proud to announce that we are the recipient of a $25,000 Municipal Investment Grant (MIG) from Dutchess County.

This funding will be utilized to make important infrastructure improvements at one of our fire stations, including the replacement of an aging boiler and remediation of an antiquated oil tank.

We are extremely grateful for the continued support of our partners at Dutchess County and for their investment in our firefighters and our community. Funding opportunities like the MIG program allow the District to address critical facility needs while continuing to focus our resources on the health, safety, and well-being of our firefighters and all of our members.

Congratulations to Our Newest Firefighters!

The Arlington Fire District proudly congratulates Steve Haldeman, Zachary Jones, and William Lacovara on their successful completion of the New York State Fire Academy.

This achievement reflects months of hard work, dedication, discipline, and perseverance. Completing the Fire Academy is a significant milestone and the foundation of a career dedicated to protecting and serving others.

We are excited to welcome Steve, Zachary, and William back to Arlington as they begin integrating into our daily operations and continue their development alongside our experienced members. Storm Recovery Update from the Arlington Fire District:

As recovery efforts continue across Dutchess County, Arlington Fire District reminds residents to remain cautious and patient as utility crews work to restore power and clear storm damage.

Current Update (as of 2:00 PM):

* Central Hudson expects approximately 90% of customers to have power restored by 10:00 PM Tuesday.
* NYSEG expects approximately 90% restoration by 4:00 PM Tuesday.
* Crews continue working throughout the county to remove downed trees, clear roadways, and restore electrical service.

Safety Reminders:

* Treat any downed wire as energized. Stay away and report it immediately to your utility company or call 911 if there is an immediate danger.
* If using a generator, operate it outside and at least 20 feet from your home, with the exhaust directed away from doors and windows to prevent carbon monoxide poisoning.
* If traffic signals are out, treat the intersection as a four-way stop.

Thank you to all of the first responders, utility workers, highway departments, and public works crews working around the clock to keep our communities safe.

Stay safe, stay informed, and continue to check on your neighbors, especially older adults and those with medical needs.

Happy Fourth of July from the Arlington Fire District!

On behalf of the members of the Arlington Fire District, we wish everyone in our community a safe and happy Independence Day.

As we celebrate our nation’s freedom, we also recognize and thank the dedicated firefighters, EMS providers, dispatchers, law enforcement officers, and all first responders who are serving our community today so others can enjoy the holiday with family and friends.

If you’re celebrating, please do so responsibly. Use caution with grills, keep a safe distance from fireworks displays, stay hydrated, and look out for your neighbors.

With dangerous heat expected over the next several days, the Arlington Fire District would like to remind residents to take precautions to stay safe.

If you do not have access to air conditioning, please take advantage of one of the many cooling centers available throughout Dutchess County. Several local libraries serve as designated cooling centers, and additional temporary locations have been opened during this heat event, including facilities in Poughkeepsie, Pleasant Valley, East Fishkill, Red Hook, Pawling, Wassaic, and other communities. Please call ahead to confirm operating hours before visiting.

Some cooling options in the Poughkeepsie area include:

* Adriance Memorial Library – 93 Market Street
* Boardman Road Branch Library – 141 Boardman Road
* Salvation Army Community Center – 19 Pershing Avenue (limited hours)

Extreme heat can become life-threatening very quickly. Please remember to:

* Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water.
* Limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
* Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
* Never leave children or pets in parked vehicles.
* Check on elderly family members, neighbors, and anyone without reliable air conditioning.

If you experience signs of heat exhaustion or heat stroke, seek medical attention immediately and call 911 if the situation is an emergency.

Stay cool, stay hydrated, and stay safe.

As another school year comes to a close, summer adventures are just around the corner. Whether your plans include the pool, playground, sports fields, backyard barbecues, or family vacations, warmer temperatures bring a few extra safety reminders.

- Stay hydrated. Encourage children to drink water regularly, even before they say they’re thirsty.

- Never leave children or pets unattended in a vehicle, even for a few minutes. Interior temperatures can rise dangerously fast.

- Apply and reapply sunscreen throughout the day, especially during outdoor activities.

- Ensure children are actively supervised around pools and other bodies of water. Designate a “water watcher” and avoid distractions.

- If you’re enjoying a fire pit or grilling this summer, keep a safe distance from structures and never leave flames unattended.

Today, the Arlington Fire District pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women of our United States Armed Forces who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our nation. Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer, it is a solemn reminder of the courage, dedication, and selflessness displayed by those who gave their lives protecting the freedoms we enjoy every day.

As firefighters, EMT’s, Paramedics, and public servants, we understand the meaning of sacrifice, duty, and service above self. We are forever grateful to the fallen heroes and the families who continue to carry their legacy forward.
