The mission of Armand Bayou Nature Center (ABNC) is twofold:

To preserve the wetlands prairie, forest and marsh habitats with which we have been entrusted. To provide opportunities for people to experience the Armand Bayou habitats and the importance of preserving these vanishing habitats. Through preservation and education, ABNC strives to "Reconnect People with Nature". ABNC contains 2500 a

cres of the natural wetlands forest, prairie and marsh habitats once abundant in the Houston/Galveston area. ABNC is home to over 370 species of birds, mammals, reptiles and amphibians. ABNC offers hiking trails, exhibits, field trips, Scout programs, birding, a historic farm and fun for all.

We are incredibly grateful for our long-standing partnership with the Celanese Foundation. Year after year, Celanese steps up to support our mission at ABNC, not only through generous financial contributions but also by rolling up their sleeves for volunteer service projects that keep our ecosystems thriving.

Last week, our Executive Director, Tim, visited our friends at Celanese Clear Lake, where they presented him with this year’s amazing $5,000 Community Investment donation!

Thank you, Celanese, for your continued dedication to conservation, education, and community service. Your year-round support makes a profound impact on the nature center and everyone who visits.

Huge thanks to Ed Wargo for capturing the Space Center Rotary group rolling up their sleeves to remove invasive Chinese Tallow trees at ABNC! 🛠️

Chinese Tallow is incredibly aggressive and crowds out our native habitats, so getting these trees cleared is a huge win for local biodiversity. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who lent a hand during Stewardship Saturday! 💚

The end of the night shift... 🌕🦆💤

While many of us are just waking up, these Black-bellied Whistling-Ducks are heading home after a busy night. ABNC volunteer and photographer Gary Seloff captured this incredible moment at dawn as a flock passed the setting moon over Armand Bayou.

Did you know that whistling ducks are actually nocturnal feeders? While we often assume flying birds at dawn are heading out to start their day, these beauty-sleep seekers are actually flying back to their roost to rest after foraging under the cover of darkness.

It’s just another magical glimpse into the secret lives of our bayou neighbors.

Drop a 💚 if you love learning more about our local wildlife!

Invasive plants stood absolutely no chance against this crew! On last week’s Stewardship Saturday, the ABNC volunteers were joined by an amazing group of volunteers from INEOS. Together, they formed the "Thorn Crew," clearing out the aggressive, invasive plants and trees that threaten to crowd out our vital native species.

It was a morning of hard work, muddy boots, and incredible community spirit.

Check out the energy, the teamwork, and the massive impact of this crew in our latest amazing video by Ed Wargo!
