We're also known as Tlacuache Borracho Preserve. We are a small wildlife rehabilitation group in the Houston/Galveston area. Our rehabbers are permitted to treat small mammals. We generally care for raccoons, opossums, squirrels, skunks, bunnies, and small rodents. However, we can help connect you with other rehabbers. The wildlife rehabilitation community is not an extension of any government ent

ity and does not receive any funding. We operate solely on donations and the kindness of our supporters. We cannot charge for taking animals, but we will graciously accept donations and supplies. https://www.bonfire.com/store/the-drunk-opossum/

Midnight, a young and rather foolish evening bat, was cavorting in south Houston last week when, having failed to pay attention to where she was going, she collided with a harsh and unforgiving door. The crash resulted in a comminuted compound fracture of the left humerus - a very painful injury indeed. With her wing quite literally in pieces, she was lucky to be found quickly. Rehabber Erika at The Drunk Opossum provided emergency care, and our fabulous transport volunteers Dennis, Casey and Jodie ran the relay to get her here.

This morning, Midnight is resting comfortably, with pain medication and antibiotics. She will not be releasable, so she will join our permanent colony and teach other rehabilitators how to properly care for these amazing animals.

I want to send a special thank you to the transporters who got my little bat to Bat World Sanctuary in Weatherford to fix her fractured wing. I’m so impressed with the coordination and selflessness of everyone involved! Bat World is going to take excellent care of her!

It’s baby bat season, and with the recent bad weather, we’re getting an overwhelming number of bat calls. Please remember: if you find a bat, do not handle it with your bare hands — always use gloves!

If a bat bites someone (even out of fear), it becomes an automatic death sentence for the bat. It MUST be euthanized and tested for rabies. And depending on the situation, it can also pose a serious health risk to you.

Biting is a last-resort defense for wildlife (and some people). They’re scared, not aggressive. Let’s do our part to keep both people and bats safe by handling these situations responsibly.

I don’t want to have to euthanize a bat because someone got too close or handled it recklessly. Please be cautious and spread the word.

Sometimes, when you see something you like, you just take it. 🤣 I just thefted this bunny post from RobCo Wildlife Group.

In my defense, I told them I was going to do it, so that automatically makes it mines. ❤️

Hey y’all!

Baby bat is season is here and we’re getting hit! One of the biggest challenges is getting them where they need to go. Coordinating pick-ups, drop-offs, and meet-ups can be super complicated.

Not everyone has the means to donate and most folks don’t have time for 6-8 hour volunteer shifts. That’s where you come in … Consider being an Uber for sky puppies! No handling. No p**p. No medical care.

Sign up with Bat World Sanctuary as a volunteer bat transporter in our area. Just provide a ride from Point A to Point B so a bat can get to a permitted rehabilitator.

If you’ve got a vehicle and a little spare time, we’d love the help.
