August was a record-breaking month for ARH Diabetes Education!
Through education, screenings, outreach and support, our team reached 267 community members across Kentucky and West Virginia. Highlights included:
🔹 83 free A1C screenings
🔹 15 outreach events across 10 counties and two states
🔹 172 participants at Diabetes Connection meetings—a new monthly attendance record
🔹 National recognition for Ashley Webb and Tiffany Dixon at ADCES26
These numbers represent more than services provided, they represent people gaining knowledge, finding support and taking meaningful steps toward better health.
We are proud of our Diabetes Education team and grateful to the community partners and participants who make this work possible. Together, we’re creating more opportunities for healthier lives across Appalachia.

Join us for Food for Life: A Heart Healthy Cooking Class on Tuesday, September 15 at 5:00 p.m. at the Johnson County Extension Office!

Learn how to prepare a simple and delicious healthy bean salad while picking up practical tips for heart-healthy eating. This free class is offered in partnership with ARH and UK Cooperative Extension Service.

Each family that attends will receive:

Let’s gather for another session of Big Blue Book Club!

Save the dates . . . the next Big Blue Book Club will be held on Thursdays, September 10-24 and the book is The Art of Gathering: How we meet and why it matters by Priya Parker. In Extension we meet all the time. This book explores how to make gatherings more productive and meaningful by focusing on purpose, design and participant experience. It challenges our routine ways of meeting and encourages thoughtful, engaging interactions that truly connect people. Monica Mundy, Extension Professor for Family and Community Health will lead this session via Zoom. Registration starts on July 15.
