We address the challenges of critical issues affecting people's daily lives in a changing environment. Programs focus on economic, social, and physical well-being of our clients and community. We strengthen personal and family relationships, encourage healthful choices, and identify resources to extend income. Educational programs of Kentucky Cooperative Extension serve all people regardless of race, color, age, sex.

Get ready for a weekend filled with holiday shopping, family fun, festive activities, and Christmas magic at Holiday Happenings 2026!

Hosted by the Johnson County Extension Homemakers, Holiday Happenings serves as a fundraiser for the organization, helping support leadership development, volunteer service projects, and community outreach efforts throughout the year.

🛍️ Holiday Happenings: Indoor Craft Show
Shop from talented artisans, crafters, bakers, and vendors offering unique gifts, holiday décor, handmade items, specialty foods, and much more. It's the perfect place to find something special while supporting local businesses and makers.

🎅 Santa's Workshop
Young shoppers will have the opportunity to experience the excitement of Santa's Workshop! Every youth participant will receive Santa Cash to spend in the workshop, allowing them to select games to play and crafts to make with homemaker volunteers.

🎄 Cookies with Santa
(FREE) Visit with Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus, share your Christmas wishes, take photos, and decorate a festive cookie. This beloved activity is a favorite for children and families alike.

📖 Stories with Mrs. Claus
(FREE) Gather around for holiday stories with Mrs. Claus! At the beginning of every hour, children can enjoy a story with Mrs. Claus.

💌 Cards for Military Service Members
(FREE) Help us honor and thank those who serve by creating holiday cards for military service members. This meaningful activity gives families an opportunity to spread holiday cheer and gratitude.

🎁 Fun for the Entire Family Whether you're shopping, visiting Santa, decorating cookies, listening to stories, creating cards, or enjoying Santa's Workshop, there's something for everyone at Holiday Happenings!

💙🌟 Interested in Learning a New Skill? 🌟💙

Did you know that several of our creative learning groups are led by talented Extension Homemaker volunteers who generously share their time, knowledge, and passion with others?

Each month, participants gather to learn new techniques, complete projects, and enjoy fellowship through volunteer-led groups such as:

🧵 Quilt Guild
🪡 Embroidery Club
✂️ Fundamentals of Scrapbooking
👜 Sew Along Saturday

Whether you're interested in quilting, embroidery, paper crafting, or sewing, these groups offer a welcoming place to learn, create, and connect with others who share your interests.

A special thank you to our Homemaker volunteers who make these opportunities possible. Their willingness to share their talents helps preserve traditional skills, inspire creativity, and strengthen our community through lifelong learning.

No experience is necessary, just bring a willingness to learn and have fun!

💙🌟 Join the Johnson County Extension Homemakers! 🌟💙

Homemaker registration for the 2026-2027 year is now underway! If you are interested in joining Extension Homemakers, applications must be completed and turned in to the Extension Office by December 1.

Applications were included in the November/December 2026 Newsletter, or you can stop by the Johnson County Extension Office to pick one up.

📅 Current Homemaker Clubs & Meeting Times:
💙 Oil Springs Homemakers: Every 1st Tuesday at Noon
💙 Community Club Homemakers: Every 3rd Monday at 6:00 PM at the Extension Office
💙 High Riser Club Homemakers: Every 3rd Wednesday at 1:00 PM at Bristlebuck Manor

We've had a wonderful start to the Homemaker year!

Here's a glimpse at what our clubs explored during October:
📌 Oil Springs Homemakers created personal vision boards and discussed goals for the future.
📌 High Risers Homemakers sampled the Calendar recipe, Simple Bean Salad, and made bookmarks and gift tags.
📌 Community Homemakers learned about the importance of healthy sleep habits and created relaxing lavender bath bombs.

Whether you're interested in leadership, community service, learning new skills, creative projects, healthy living, or making new friends, there's a place for you in Extension Homemakers!

🍂🎉 Connecting with Our Community This October! 🎉🍂

October was filled with wonderful opportunities to engage with community members of all ages throughout Johnson County!

🍎 We celebrated student leadership and service during Porter Elementary Leadership Day.

🚗🍬 We enjoyed sharing Extension resources and treats with families at Trunk or Treat at Little Light Academy.

🌎📚 We partnered with the Johnson County Public Library for Passport to Your Community, helping connect residents with valuable local organizations and services.

❤️ We also spent time with friends at the Johnson County Senior Citizens Center, sharing information, building relationships, and supporting lifelong learning.

A special thank you to our community partners for inviting us to participate in these events and for the work you do each day to strengthen Johnson County. We are grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with local schools, libraries, community organizations, and senior services to bring educational resources and programming to our residents.

📚🌱👻 Learning, Moving, and Growing Together! 👻🌱📚

Our preschool literacy, nutrition, and physical activity program is off to a great start! We have completed two sessions so far with Little Light Academy and have enjoyed spending time with our young learners as they explore healthy habits through books, movement, and hands-on activities.

During our first two sessions, we shared the stories A Seed Is a Suitcase and Smelly Ghost, using each book to spark conversations about healthy foods, active play, and the world around us. From learning how seeds travel and grow to participating in fun movement activities, the children have been engaged, curious, and excited to learn.

Thank you to our preschool partners for allowing us to be part of your classroom experience! 💙

Thank you to everyone who stopped by the Johnson County Extension activities during the 2026 Johnson County Trail Days celebration!

Families enjoyed creating their own Nature Pals, using leaves, natural materials, and plenty of imagination to turn items from nature into unique works of art. It was wonderful to see creativity blooming as participants explored the outdoors and connected with nature. 🍁🦋 🌞

Visitors also had the opportunity to experience our Mindfulness Trail, where they practiced being present in the moment through simple mindfulness activities designed to encourage observation, reflection, and appreciation of the world around them. The Mindfulness Trail helps connect individuals, schools, workplaces, and communities with easy-to-use wellness practices.

Our team loved seeing community members of all ages engage in these hands-on activities that promoted creativity, wellness, and outdoor exploration. Thank you for helping make Trail Days 2026 a success!

Thank you to everyone who joined us for Appalachian Regional Healthcare (ARH) Diabetes Connection meeting! Participants learned about the importance of social support and how family, friends, caregivers, and community resources can play a vital role in living well with diabetes.

These monthly gatherings provide a welcoming space to learn, share experiences, ask questions, and connect with others on a similar journey. We are grateful for our continued partnership with ARH and Aetna Better Health of Kentucky in bringing these educational opportunities to our community.

Remember, managing diabetes is easier when you don't have to do it alone. 💙
