ICYMI via Rep. Troy Carter: "While Senator Price’s SB 407 failed in committee last night, it is my sincere hope that its core principles can still be incorporated through amendments to SB 121, which did pass. As this process moves forward, I will continue advocating for fairness, equity, and representation that truly reflects the demographics and voices of our great state.

ICYMI via Rep. Cleo Fields: "The demographics of this state demand fair representation. The history of this state demands it. And the people of Louisiana — ALL of the people — deserve nothing less."

: After nearly 9 hours of debate, Senate Bill 121 by Sen. Jay Morris PASSES in a 4-3 vote and now moves to the full Louisiana State Senate. This happened around 4:30 this morning, Wednesday, May 13.

What does this mean?
Under the proposed congressional map, District 2, currently represented by Troy Carter, would become Louisiana’s only majority-Black congressional district.

What happens next?
The bill has now cleared committee and heads to the full Senate for floor debate and a vote.

If it passes the Senate, it then moves to the Louisiana House of Representatives. If both chambers approve the same version, the bill would then head to Gov. Jeff Landry to be signed or vetoed.

🚨 UPDATE: They moved the vote UP.

What was originally scheduled for Wednesday has now been moved to Tuesday with almost no notice.

That should tell you everything.

When politicians start rushing congressional maps through committee hearings, the public has every right to ask why.

Louisianans deserve fair representation, transparent government, and a process that doesn’t happen behind closed doors or at the last minute.

We need people in the room, paying attention, and speaking out.

We’re proud to partner with organizers, volunteers, staff, and candidates across Louisiana who are doing the day-to-day work of reaching voters, building infrastructure, and fighting for communities that too often get ignored.

With support from the DNC, Democrats in Louisiana have already reached voters across the state through hundreds of thousands of texts and emails, direct organizing, and on-the-ground support for candidates and local efforts.

And this is only the beginning. In the months ahead, we’re preparing to invest even more into voter outreach, digital organizing, rapid response, and year-round infrastructure because Louisiana deserves a Democratic Party that shows up, communicates clearly, and fights everywhere, not just during election season.

There’s still a lot of work to do. We know that. But we’re doing it.
