On October 8th, over 900 guests gathered at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel’s Grand Ballroom to raise funds to strengthen our outreach and housing programs. The 2026 Celebrating Home and Community Gala brought together industry leaders to honor champions of supportive and affordable housing: the Related Companies, represented by Bruce Beal Jr and Frank Montesiri Jr, and New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin. This year’s event raised over $3.9 Million to support Breaking Ground programs and extend our reach to help more of the most vulnerable New Yorkers come indoors and restore their lives in housing. Last month, Breaking Ground officially opened the doors to Sutphin Senior Housing & Clinic, our first permanent supportive residence in Queens. Sutphin co-locates 173 affordable apartments with a state-of-the-art health center owned and operated by our partners at the Community Healthcare Network. It was wonderful to celebrate with all the amazing partners who made Sutphin possible, and we are so excited that tenants finally have the keys to their new homes. At Breaking Ground, home is more than a place to live; it is a community. Each year, the Breaking Ground Junior Board provides Thanksgiving dinners to residents across our housing portfolio. Please consider supporting their efforts to provide festive meals for low-income and formerly homeless tenants across our housing portfolio, along with holiday celebrations that ensure our tenants know there is a community around them that cares. Indigenous Peoples Day is a cause for reflection and celebration. Today is a reminder that Indigenous Peoples have suffered greatly throughout history, while also giving us a moment to learn more about Indigenous culture and celebrate it.

The 2026 Celebrating Home & Community Gala was a night to remember!

Thank you to everyone who joined us, and to our amazing lineup of sponsors whose generosity helped us to raise a record amount – over $3.9 million – in support of Breaking Ground’s outreach and housing programs across New York City.

This year, we were thrilled and humbled to honor New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin for her leadership and commitment to affordable housing, and Bruce Beal and Frank Monterisi of the Related Companies who have dedicated their careers to creating affordable homes for New Yorkers from all walks of life.

We were delighted to have many of our great partners in City and State government join us, along with a strong showing from New York City’s real estate and housing finance industries.

Every dollar raised extends our reach and enables us to help more of New York’s most vulnerable come indoors and restore their lives in housing. Thank you.
