106 years ago today, the 19th Amendment was certified and millions of American women could finally vote.

Five years later, a group of Jewish women in New York started Pioneer Women. They raised money for working mothers and their kids, ran meetings out of their own living rooms, and kept it going through the Depression and a world war. In 1985 the name changed to NA'AMAT USA, but the work never stopped.

Equality on paper matters. Equality in a woman's daily life — child care she can afford, a lawyer who takes her case, a safe place to go — is what we build.
