β˜€οΈβ€œWhat are you doing next summer?β€β˜€οΈ

On September 25, our Office of Educational Opportunity and 1stGenYale brought students one step closer to answering this question.

Our second annual Summer Bulldogs Internship Fair brought together more than 125 students and 17 organizations to kick off the summer 2027 internship hiring cycle. Students shared their skills and interests, connected with potential employers, reviewed resume writing tips, and explored new opportunities.

Thank you to the students and organizations who made the day a success!

How are Yale students learning with AI?

On September 21, our Student AI Liaisons (SAILs) Program brought undergrad students together to reflect on AI as a learning partner, and the judgment involved in knowing when to turn to it.

A few highlights:

πŸ’‘ Ask AI to support active learning: explain a concept in your own words, then ask for feedback or practice questions.

🌱 Leave room for unfinished thinking: messy drafts and working through difficult problems can build understanding and confidence.

πŸ’¬ Make expectations clear: students valued instructors who explained assignment goals and discussed AI use openly.

Suited for Success πŸ‘”βœ¨

Our first annual FGLI 'Fits Clothing Rack delivered smiles, styles, and confidence! Students were invited to β€œshop” from a selection of professional attire for interviews, internships, presentations, and other opportunities.

By making career-ready clothing more accessible, FGLI 'Fits aims to help prepare Yale’s first-generation, low-income students to take their next professional step.

All items were donated by Poorvu Center staff looking to give their cleaned, gently used office wear a new homeβ€”supporting students while advancing sustainability on campus!

Good food, new friendships, and a strong start to the year! πŸŽ‰

More than 150 students gathered at our FGLI Thrive Kickoff Dinner last week to connect with Yale’s first-generation, low-income community and launch this year’s First-Year Peer Mentorship Program.

We loved seeing students mingle over House of Naan and begin building the relationships that make Yale feel a little more like home.

We’re excited for another year of mentorship, friendship, and thriving together! πŸ’™

A syllabus is more than a course roadmap – it offers a first glimpse of an instructor’s values and sets the tone for the semester.

This week, we hosted our annual Syllabus (Re)Design, bringing together instructors from across Yale to reflect on course design and create or revise syllabi aligned with their goals and values.

Thank you to everyone who participated and brought such care and intention to the day. Here’s to a meaningful year ahead!

One week. 81 open classrooms. 132 visiting colleagues. Countless new ideas.

During Faculty Bulldog Days, Yale faculty, instructors, and staff were invited to become students again – visiting open classes, exploring new disciplines, and gathering ideas they can bring back to their own teaching.

Thank you to all who joined us to celebrate teaching and learning! https://bit.ly/49Qnkdt

We’re proud to support projects like "Yale en primera persona: Narrativas hispanas" through the collaborative work of our Digital Education team and Teaching Studios.

This visit from Watertown High School is a wonderful example of how Yale’s teaching and learning resources can create meaningful impact beyond campus.

How are innovation, collaboration, and accessibility shaping the future of teaching and learning at Yale? The Poorvu Center recently presented at Yale’s OneIT conference, leading three sessions exploring these topics.

From GLASS (Global Learner Access Support System) innovations transforming the way online learners connect with Yale to the latest AI integrations in Canvas and updates to Yale’s digital accessibility services, the event spotlighted many of the partnerships and collaborations driving our work.

Thank you to all who attended, asked thoughtful questions, and shared ideas – we’re grateful for the conversation and excited to continue our work together!
