SIROCCO—Columbia's take on the Syrian insurgency against the French—premiered 75 years ago tody with exactly one Syrian in the cast: the uncredited singer Abdullah Abbas. Though not a critical or commercial hit, it did inspire Bosley Crowther's cutting remark that "the scene is no more suggestive of Damascus than a Shriners' convention in New Orleans."
