When disaster strikes, does your family know what to do if you're not all together (running errands, at school or work)?

Having a family emergency plan covers: two meeting spots (one near home, one outside the neighborhood), an out-of-area contact person, evacuation routes, and a plan for pets and family members with special needs. Sit down this week and map it out together.

The wait is over. Our crew revealed what their personal walk-out songs would be. Of course we had some fun with it.

🚨 Could you survive 72 hours with what's in your house right now? September is National Preparedness Month and we want YOU to be ready.

✅ Build a basic kit. Water, food, flashlight, first aid, meds — enough for 72 hours.
🗓️ Make a family plan. Pick two meeting spots and an out-of-area contact.
⚠️ Sign up for alerts. Get real-time emergency notifications sent straight to your phone.
📍Know your exits. Map two ways out of your neighborhood before you need them.
🔋Check your smoke & CO detectors. Test them today — batteries are cheap, warnings are priceless.

A few seconds of caution can help everyone make it home safely.

Serving with compassion can mean many things. One of our crews was able to use rescue extrication equipment this afternoon and safely rescue a fawn that was trapped in deck railing. We’re happy to report that the fawn is doing great and happily reunited with mom.

Did you know a tower ladder does much more than fight fires?

Tower 531 allows our crews to safely access multi-story buildings, perform rescues from elevated locations, provide aerial water streams, and assist with technical rescue operations.

One spark is all it takes. 🔥Proper storage saves lives. Flammable liquids should always be stored in approved safety cabinets, away from ignition sources and in accordance with manufacturer recommendations.

A little prevention goes a long way.

Two young brothers making a big impact. 🧡

Colton (11) and Tyler (14) Perkins — founders of "Ugly Ducklings and Their Dog" — recently stopped by Monument Fire Station #2 to donate 3D-printed sensory kits, complete with fidget tools and non-verbal medical communication cards, for our crews to carry on their apparatus. The kits were created to give first responders another tool when working with individuals with sensory needs during emergencies.

Since 2025, the brothers have donated 700+ kits to agencies across Colorado and 6 other states — with a goal of reaching all 50. We were proud to present them with an MFD coin in thanks for their generosity and heart for our community. 👏🚒
