Emily was just weeks away from marrying her fiancé and never imagined he would hurt her. Now, she is sharing her story as she and her daughters recover from a horrifying act of domestic violence. Emily and her daughters have shown tremendous courage during this hardship, and they deserve the compassion and support of our entire community. 
 
We also want to thank FOX 10 Phoenix for highlighting the warning signs of abuse that can be difficult to recognize. As A New Leaf’s Chief Development Officer Lisa Bell explained, abuse can begin with controlling behaviors, such as demanding to know where someone is, insisting on checking their phone, or even yelling at them in public. 
 
Recognizing these warning signs is important, but Emily’s experience is also a painful reminder that violence can occur without obvious warning. No one should ever have to fear for their life at the hands of someone they love. 
 
As Emily looks toward a fresh start, we believe every survivor deserves the opportunity to heal, rebuild, and live free from violence. A New Leaf is committed to making that possible by providing safety, shelter, and supportive services that help survivors and their families regain stability and independence.

We wanted to share the full remarks from Dana Martinez, A New Leaf’s Director of Domestic and Sexual Violence Services, who recently spoke alongside Congresswomen Yassamin Ansari, Melanie Stansbury, and Maxine Dexter at a press conference advocating for survivors of sexual violence.

Dana’s message is an important reminder that survivors respond to trauma in different ways, and no one should face public scrutiny simply because their experience or response does not meet someone else’s expectations.

Through A New Leaf’s Sexual Violence Services (REACH Sexual Violence Services | A New Leaf ), we are committed to ensuring survivors have access to compassionate advocacy, safety, and healing resources, regardless of when or how they choose to come forward.

We are SO excited to be part of Light the World and the Arizona Giving Machines again this year! 🎁❤️ Starting November 16, you can visit the Giving Machines in downtown Gilbert and choose a gift that directly supports A New Leaf and local families working toward safety, stability, and independence.

Giving Machines turn holiday generosity into something you can see and share. Instead of buying something for yourself from a vending machine, you select an item representing a real need for a local or global charity. 100% of your donation goes to the charity you choose.

We are incredibly grateful to The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for bringing this tradition to communities across Arizona year after year. It is such a joyful way for families, friends, and neighbors to come together during the giving season and make a meaningful difference.

Earlier this month, A New Leaf brought together some very special members of our community for a day of family fun: our foster care families! ❤️
 
From pony rides and a petting zoo to games, crafts, and delicious food, our Foster Care Family Picnic was filled with smiles, laughter, and opportunities to connect!
 
This special event brought together foster care families, community volunteers, partners, and A New Leaf’s dedicated Foster Care staff to celebrate the importance of providing children and families with the love, stability, and support they need to thrive.
 
A HUGE thank you to the Infinite Bond Foundation for generously providing the food that kept everyone fueled for a fantastic day! And thank you to all the volunteers, partners, and families who made this gathering so memorable.

More than 300 members of our community came together yesterday to stand alongside survivors of domestic violence at A New Leaf's With One Voice Breakfast! 💜

It was a beautiful morning filled with compassion, connection, and a shared commitment to ensuring every survivor has the opportunity to find safety, healing, and independence.

We are so proud of our community for showing up and making it clear that survivors do not have to face their journeys alone. Your generosity and support make A New Leaf's work possible, helping survivors find safety, rebuild their confidence, and create brighter futures free from abuse.

We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our guest speaker, a survivor whose deeply personal story moved the entire room. She shared how the support she received at A New Leaf's Faith House helped her rebuild her confidence and continue her journey toward healing and independence. We know it takes tremendous courage to share such personal experiences, especially with a room full of strangers. We are deeply grateful that she trusted us with her story and allowed us to be part of her journey.

To everyone who joined us, THANK YOU! Your compassion, generosity, and commitment to supporting survivors made this a truly meaningful morning. 💜

Ashley, Kira, Tim, and Antoinette have lived very different lives, but they all have one thing in common: their search for safe, stable housing brought them to A New Leaf.

In a recent feature by Arizona Foothills Magazine, these three families share their experiences with housing insecurity and how finding an affordable place to call home changed their lives.

💚 Ashley escaped domestic violence with her three children, only to face a stage 4 cancer diagnosis that left her unable to work. With just 30 days to find a new home, she turned to A New Leaf. Today, her family has a stable home, and Ashley is in remission.

💚 Kira spent years working toward sobriety, recovery and reunification with her three children. Finding affordable housing through A New Leaf helped make that reunion possible. Today, her family is together, and she's pursuing her master's degree!

💚 Tim and Antoinette struggled to afford housing while raising their son on disability income. Their family was forced to live apart, and Tim experienced homelessness. Through A New Leaf, they finally found an affordable home where they could be together again.

These stories remind us that homelessness does not have one face, one cause, or one solution. But access to safe, affordable housing can be the foundation that allows people to heal, reunite with loved ones, pursue their goals, and build lasting independence.

That's why A New Leaf remains committed to providing housing, shelter, and supportive services that help individuals and families move from crisis to stability and independence.
