New Hope for Kids is thrilled to award George LaComb as a 2026 Scholarship recipient. George is a proud member of the New Hope for Kids’ Wishes for Kids family, where both of his siblings were granted wishes while facing life threatening medical conditions. As the oldest sibling, George has been the strongest ally to his siblings through their struggles. His family has continued to be part of the New Hope community through participating in offerings like camp, family events, and even partaking in our New Hope for Kids welcome video where they shared their story. George notably recalls how experiences like the wish trips, the Fairy Garden, and the birthday shop brought joy and happiness that benefitted his family during the most difficult of times.
Motivated to champion those in need, George will be pursuing a double major in political science and environmental science at St. Lawrence University in New York. He plans to become an environmental lawyer and advocate for meaningful change, with a goal of solving society’s most pressing environmental issues. He has demonstrated his commitment to this goal through his over 2,000 community service hours that include initiatives like cleaning up trash, camp counseling, peer mentoring, helping with church services, and serving as the Florida state representative for SGA.
George’s story is one of perseverance. Despite facing harsh struggles, including homelessness and domestic issues, he pushed through them and wasn’t defined by them. Landing accomplishments like obtaining the lead role in his freshman year play, becoming the first student from his school to compete in a National Speech and Debate tournament, and serving as the Florida state representative for SGA, George has demonstrated his leadership capabilities, compassion, and motivation to create a meaningful future. George’s story embodies what New Hope for Kids strives to bring out in its community members, and we are honored to support him as he starts this new chapter.
