On September 11, 2001, hundreds of firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and emergency responders sacrificed everything to save others.

Today, on the 25th anniversary of 9/11, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) honors their bravery, selflessness, and enduring legacy. To the fallen heroes, the survivors, and the families whose lives were forever changed, together we remember, we honor, and we stand with you.

Today, the National Association of State Fire Marshals pauses to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001, and to honor the extraordinary courage of the firefighters, first responders, law enforcement officers, and everyday citizens who answered the call that day.

We remember the 2,977 lives taken, the families forever changed, and the heroes who ran toward danger in service to others.

Twenty-five years later, we continue to honor their legacy through remembrance, service, preparedness, and our unwavering commitment to protecting communities across our nation.

We will never forget.

🌎🔥 NASFM REPRESENTS STATE FIRE MARSHALS ON THE WORLD STAGE

The National Association of State Fire Marshals Executive Board was proud to attend the 2026 World Fire Congress in London, England, joining fire and emergency service leaders from around the world.

The Congress provides an important opportunity to exchange ideas, strengthen international partnerships, and address the emerging challenges facing the global fire service — including lithium-ion battery hazards, emerging technologies, firefighter health and safety, extreme weather, building safety, and community resilience.

NASFM’s participation ensures that America’s State Fire Marshals have a voice in the global conversation on fire prevention and public safety.

The challenges facing our communities do not stop at state or national borders. By working together and learning from fire service leaders across the world, we can continue building safer and more resilient communities.
