Metroplan Metroplan is the federally designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for Central Arkansas. Central Arkansas is growing. Change is inevitable.

The first question Metroplan asks every day is how to plan for that growth. Metroplan’s goal is to ensure that those changes are beneficial to the economic health, growth, and vibrancy of our region. In a global economy, our metropolitan region is in competition with every other metropolitan region on earth. The smarter we plan for the future, the better prepared our communities will be. Metroplan’s role in this effort is to provide a regional forum for solving common problems and seizing common opportunities. Metroplan serves the core of central Arkansas – with an emphasis on Pulaski, Faulkner, Saline, and Lonoke counties. Metroplan is also the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization responsible for the transportation planning process in central Arkansas.

🌱 PLANNING IN ACTION: Energy & Environment Innovation Comprehensive Plan

Planning for the future means thinking beyond roads, buildings, and development. It also means considering how our communities use energy, protect natural resources, and prepare for a changing environment.

Metroplan’s Energy & Environment Innovation Comprehensive Plan provides a regional framework for addressing energy and environmental challenges while identifying opportunities to create more sustainable, resilient, and efficient communities across Central Arkansas.

The plan brings together strategies related to:

⚡ Energy efficiency and renewable energy
🌳 Natural resources and environmental stewardship
🏘️ Sustainable community development
🌡️ Climate and environmental resilience
💡 Innovation and emerging technologies

Regional planning gives communities an opportunity to share ideas, identify common challenges, and work together on solutions that can benefit Central Arkansas.

Planning for a stronger region means planning for a region that is more resilient, sustainable, and prepared for the future.

That’s planning in action. 🌎

📋 PLANNING IN ACTION: Unified Development Ordinances

What happens when a community wants to make its development regulations easier to understand, more consistent, and better aligned with its vision for the future?

That’s where Metroplan's Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) comes in.

Our UDO brings different development regulations — such as zoning, subdivision, and other land development standards — together into one coordinated document.

For communities, that can look like clearer regulations, a more streamlined development process, and tools that better reflect local goals and priorities.

Metroplan has developed model ordinances and planning resources to help communities across Central Arkansas navigate these complex planning decisions.

Why does this matter?

🏘️ It helps communities plan for growth.
📋 It creates clearer development standards.
🗺️ It connects land use and development decisions.
🤝 It gives local leaders tools to put their community vision into practice.

Planning isn’t just about deciding where development happens.

It’s also about creating the framework that helps communities shape how they grow.

That’s planning in action.

📊 Good planning starts with understanding where you are.

What are the transportation challenges facing Faulkner County?

Where are opportunities emerging in Saline County?

How is growth affecting Pulaski County?

What transportation needs will Lonoke County face in the years ahead?

Metroplan’s County Transportation Reports bring together data, maps, and planning information for Faulkner, Saline, Lonoke, and Pulaski counties.

The reports give local leaders, communities, businesses, and residents a shared foundation for understanding transportation needs and future priorities.

Because every community has its own story — and good regional planning starts by understanding each of those stories.

📍 Four counties.
📊 One regional perspective.

The Safety Action Plan has informed Road Safety Audits and additional safety planning throughout Central Arkansas.

This is planning in action:

🗣️ Listen to the community.
