Shenandoah Downs "Horse of the Meet" Award Won by Locally-Based First Time Horse Owner
-Chris Pangle's One Fell Swoop is a Perfect 5-for-5 in Virginia

by Darrell Wood

WOODSTOCK, VA --- Shenandoah Downs will dole out end-of-season awards Sunday for leading driver, leading trainer and Horse of the Meet when the 11th annual fall harness racing campaign comes to a close, and while the first two awards won't be decided until weekend action ensues, the final one has actually been determined already --- and it comes with a storyline that can't be beat.

Chris Pangle, a local cattleman and business owner, entered the world of harness racing for the first time earlier this year when he purchased three standardbred horses --- the first ones he's ever owned --- at the urging of fellow owner/trainer Steve Wetzel who won the track's popular "Own a Horse for a Day" contest in 2021. Wetzel was so taken with the "Own a Horse" promotion that he became immersed in the sport as a farm owner and harness horse owner, breeder, trainer and even a "QF" driver --- and has since encouraged several friends, including Pangle, to purchase horses and compete at Shenandoah Downs.

"Chris loves the cattle business but I got him a guest pass to spend the afternoon with me in the backstretch of Shenandoah one day during the spring meet," said Wetzel. "He was fascinated with the experience and afterwards said, 'l've got to get one of these things'."

In late May, Pangle purchased his first two ---- Fear The Beach (from Oscar Johnson) and Longview (from Chuck Perry) --- then a month later acquired three-year-old gelding pacer One Fell Swoop from onGait. The son of Huntsville didn't race as a freshman, was winless in seven starts as a sophomore and finished no better than fifth in any start. After an initial last place finish at Ocean Downs with Pangle as owner, One Fell Swoop relocated to Shenandoah Downs when the fall meet opened September 19 --- and has been perfect since, going 5-for-5, at Pangle's home track of all things.

With driver/trainer Chuck Perry leading the charge for Pangle in Virginia, One Fell Swoop captured his three most recent starts in wire-to-wire fashion including a dominating 9-length win October 17 in 1:55 4/5.

"After buying his first two horses, Chris asked me to look for another horse," said Perry. "I told him One Fell Swoop shows speed as long as you don't give over $10,000 for him. You should be able to get your money back if we get can get him straight. He ended up buying him for $7,200."

"He is fast," added Perry. "Two months into the meet, he's responding. In two more months, we might have an even better horse, you never know. I was confident he'd do well because he was eligible for cheaper classes but knew he'd need to progress and felt he would. I think he could be an open pacer given his speed, but his mind needs to mature. He has major league speed and stamina."

Can a storybook season continue as the track heads into its closing weekend? Find out in Sunday's twelfth race when One Fell Swoop steps up in class and competes in a $8,500 conditioned pace.

Shenandoah Downs closes out its fall season with a pair of 15-race cards this weekend. Post time Saturday is 1:05 PM while Sunday's start time has been moved up to 12 Noon.

Name game: Owners enjoying the ride with Aintmyfirstro Deo

Forget about putting money down on a hunch bet. A hunch buy can prove to be a big winner too.

At least that’s been the case with 2-year-old male pacer Aintmyfirstro Deo. A son of Perfect Sting-Some Renditions bred by Deo Volente Farms, Aintmyfirstro Deo was purchased for $27,000 by Hutchison Harness LLC at last year’s Lexington Selected Yearling Sale simply because Aneta Hutchison liked the name.

So far this season, the Megan Scran trainee has finished no worse than third in any of his eight races, winning six and earning $204,000. Competing exclusively at the Meadowlands, his victories have included the $180,000 New Jersey Sire Stakes Platinum Series championship and $45,000 Renaissance. He missed by a head from post 9 in the $150,000 New Jersey Classic.

On Saturday (Oct. 31), Aintmyfirstro Deo will face nine rivals in the $125,000 Grade 3 Kindergarten Classic Series final for freshman male pacers at the Big M. He will leave from post 7 with Scott Zeron in the sulky.

“He’s been a fun horse,” said Dr. Robert Hutchison, Aneta’s husband, who races Aintmyfirstro Deo under the Hutchison Harness ownership banner that also includes his son Randy. “He wasn’t on our radar (in Lexington). My wife was sitting in the sales ring watching the sale, and Randy and I were out looking at videos and horses, and she texted us and said, ‘I really like this horse’s name, I think I’m going to buy it.’ It’s turned out to be a pretty good buy, all because she thought he had a cool name.”

The horse’s success has been a pleasant surprise, particularly because Aintmyfirstro Deo wasn’t the easiest horse to get going during the early stages of his training this past winter.

“Totally unexpected, but it’s been exciting, especially with the story behind it,” said Dr. Hutchison, a founding member of the Animal Clinic Northview in North Ridgeville, Ohio. “My wife’s cousins and sisters all follow the horse, so it has been a really fun ride. He’s turned out to be a really nice horse for us.”

Said Scran, “He does have a little bit of antics, but he’s as easygoing as a horse can come. He looks after himself, is super nice to drive, great gaited, has a really nice mouth – all the qualities you’d want in a racehorse. And obviously, he’s pretty fast.”

Aintmyfirstro Deo began his career with five consecutive wins, sweeping his three NJSS Platinum prelims and the final before adding a victory in a leg of the Kindergarten series on Aug. 29. He suffered his first defeat in the New Jersey Classic on Sept. 11 but bounced back with his Renaissance triumph on Oct. 17.

He enters the Kindergarten final off a third-place finish behind Seine and Debonaire in last week’s fifth preliminary leg, where he started from post 11 in the second tier.

“I thought he raced pretty good the other night having the 11-hole,” Dr. Hutchison said. “This (Kindergarten final) is a tough race; there are some really great horses in there. So, this is kind of a test for us to see how he matches up with some of the better horses. We'll see how it goes. Hopefully, it goes well.”

The Kindergarten final for 2-year-old male pacers includes world-record-setting Noel Daley trainee Starstruck Dreamer, who last week finished second in the Grade 1 Breeders Crown at Eldorado Scioto Downs. The son of Captaintreacherous-Scarlett Hanover will leave from post 10 with Todd McCarthy in the sulky. Seine, the Kentucky Championship Series runner-up who narrowly missed advancing to the Breeders Crown final, will start from post 5 for trainer-driver Joe Bongiorno.

“I wish (Aintmyfirstro Deo) would have drawn inside just a little bit more, but it helps that Starstruck Dreamer has the 10-hole, even though he's going to be the heavy favorite,” Scran said. “This is definitely the toughest competition he’s had to face so far. In the New Jersey Sire Stakes races, he was so much the best that he could go the fractions he wanted to go, and now he’s learning that he’s not going to get everything his own way anymore. But Scott will definitely put him in the right spot to give him the best chance.”

Aintmyfirstro Deo is not Hutchison Harness’ only success story this season. The stable also shares in the ownership of undefeated 2-year-old filly trotter Wall Of Fame, 3-year-old filly trotter Jailbird Jog, and 3-year-old male pacer Tsunami Seas.

Wall Of Fame won New Jersey Sire Stakes Platinum and Kentucky Championship titles as well as a division of the Grade 3 Bluegrass Stakes; Jailbird Jog captured the inaugural Oak Grove Trotting Oaks and a division of the Grade 2 Del Miller Memorial; and Tsunami Seas was an Ohio Sires Stakes Scarlet champ.

“We’ve been in the horse business 50-plus years, and we’ve had good horses over the years, but we’ve never had a year like this,” Dr. Hutchison said. “This has just been unbelievable, one of those dream things. We appreciate it. We’re riding the wave as long as it goes.”

Racing begins at 6:20 p.m. (EDT) on Saturday at the Meadowlands. The four Kindergarten Classic Series finals for 2-year-old pacers and trotters are races 6-9.

Sayinwhatimthinkin and driver Trevor Smith used a gate-to-wire effort to score a two-length victory in the $21,000 featured conditioned trot Wednesday (Oct. 28) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.

Herecomecharlie B (Austin Hanners) was the first off the gate’s wings, but quickly found himself between rivals, Nickel And Dime on the inside and Sayinwhatimthinkin on the outside.

Sayinwhatimthinkin marched to the front, putting Nickel And Dime into the pocket.

The half-time mark was :56.2 after an opening quarter of :27.4.

Triathlon As (Jeremy Smith) was flushed off the rail, providing cover for Vekna (Kayne Kauffman).

Unpressured at the three-quarters in 1:25, Sayinwhatimthinkin was able to put some daylight between he and his challengers around the final turn, cruising home in 1:54.1.

Triathlon As closed for second, edging out Nickel And Dime by a quarter of a length.

The six-year-old gelded son of Swan For All picked up his 17th career win.

The winner is trained by Jeff Smith for Tdtrot LLC.

Three-time Dayton Raceway leading driver Jeremy Smith enjoyed a big night, recording a grand slam on the 14-race card.

Smith opened the evening with a victory behind Granite Ridge Lady, stopping the clock in 1:52.4, and capped the program with a win behind Juliet Capulet in 1:53.1. In between, he guided She's As Well to a 1:53.1 triumph and Victorious Farah to victory in 1:54.1.

Dayton Raceway will be back in action Thursday afternoon (Oct. 29) with a 4:00 PM first post.

Batavia, NY — After winning two of the three preliminary legs and being claimed twice during the proceedings, J B Gram saved his best mile of the year for Thursday (Oct. 28) night as he won the $22,500 final of the Octoberfest Claiming Series at Batavia Downs.

J B Gram (Kevin Cummings) took the first lead of the race passing the eighth pole, but Skyline Blue Chip (Drew Monti) was not content with a pocket trip and came out to gain the front passing the quarter in :28.4. Once in control, Skyline Blue Chip reached the half in :57.4 before being confronted by Motive Hanover (Joe Chindano Jr.) as they rolled up the backstretch.

Motive Hanover, under a highly animated drive, was able to draw alongside J B Gram during the :28 flat third panel, but was not able to reach Skyline Blue Chip, as they entered the last turn. Halfway through that bend, Motive Hanover began to fade, leaving J B Gram the only threat for Skyline Blue Chip going home. When the race entered the stretch, J B Gram slid into the passing lane and the race was on. With both drivers bouncing in the bike, J B Gram incrementally gained ground on Skyline Blue Chip all the way to the line and pushed clear by a mere head to win in 1:55, tying his seasonal mark.

It was the fifth win of the year for J B Gram ($5.82), who is owned by Ben Ortiz and trained by Shawn McDonough.

Earlier in the $10,000 fillies and mares Class A pace, Lady Blue Jay (John Cummings Jr.) grabbed the lead from post one and took no prisoners from there. Lady Blue Jay cut quarters of :28.2, :58.1 and 1:26.2 to three-quarters, where she was under a full-blown attack from Windsun Charlotte (Dave McNeight III), Face The Shadows (Brad Galliers) and Tres Chic Bluechip (Brett MacDonald). But Lady Blue Jay was the toughest of the bunch as she refused to lose by one-half length in the shadow of the wire in 1:56.1, as seven horses crossed the line within two lengths of each other.

It was a seasonal best win by Lady Blue Jay ($4.08) for owner Fred Yellen. Megan Wilson trains the winner.

Brett MacDonald led all drivers on Wednesday with three wins while trainers Tammy Cummings, Shawn McDonough and Luis Ramirez all sent two from their barn to the winner’s circle.

Live racing will resume at Batavia Downs on Thursday (Oct. 29) at 5:00 p.m. and there will be a $26,567 carryover in the Jackpot Super Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the 12th race.

TEAM SVANSTEDT HAS A BIG TUESDAY AT POCONO

ATTRIBUTION – PHHA / Pocono
(Curtis Salonick photo)

WILKES-BARRE PA – The stable of newly-elected Hall of Famer Åke Svanstedt, already sending out winners at a 35% clip at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania, improved on that number during Tuesday afternoon’s card at The Downs with three victories from five starters (60%), including a victory by the Chapter Seven – I D Diana NO miss Kountry Irene in the top purse event of the day, a $16,000 event for two-year-old trotting fillies.

Kountry Irene, who traces back in the third generation to the $3.5M+-winning champion Mr Muscleman, has had some decorum issues early in her career, but Tuesday she broke her maiden in fine style with a 1:57 victory. Kountry Irene quickly overcame the outside post even to get the lead, yielded to the brushing favorite Pippa Hill and stalked her, then gradually put her away in the last stanza and won over the closer Queen Kate by 1½ lengths. Trainer-driver Svanstedt is also co-owner of the filly with OBM Stable.

There were two $15,500 divisions of a conditioned trot for developing horses, with the faster cut producing a horse to watch in the Southwind Chrome sophomore filly Pony Chrome, a dynamic 1:53.1 winner. The talented diamondgaiter had won at Springfield twice, DuQuoin, and Delaware (OH) before recently being purchased by Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Yannick Gingras, and FAC Racing LLC, and Pocono’s leading trainer Burke has combined with Pocono’s leading driver Tyler Buter to add two more wins onto the filly’s current streak, including Tuesday’s two-move triumph.

The other subfeature success went to the International Moni three-year-old gelding Nose Jammer, now a fourteen-time winner in under two seasons of campaigning after a 1:56.1 victory. Nose Jammer proved to be a pocket rocket as he won by a length for trainer-driver Todd Schadel, also co-owner with wife Christine.

Åke Svanstedt was the only trainer with more than one win on the Tuesday Pocono card, driving two himself and using Tyler Buter for the other. Buter had four victories at all; Ridge Warren recorded a double.

There are ten more racing days to go in the 2026 Pocono schedule before closing day of Saturday, November 21. Racing at Pocono resumes on Saturday at 1 p.m.; among the highlights will be world champion Ruthless Hanover going for his third straight win in the $27,500 fast-class handicap pace; the first preliminary of the Game Of Claims Pacing Series for horses base-tagged at $10,000; and via simulcast the second day of the Breeders Cup Thoroughbred Championships.

Ready For Pictures All Smiles After Dayton Feature

by Jay Wolf
(Conrad photo)

The only three-year-old in a compact field defeated his older foes to take the $20,000 condition claiming feature Tuesday evening (Oct. 27) at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway.

Scratched down to a field of five, a three-way battle ensued for early command.

Hey Trixey (Luke Hanners) led the field past the opening panel in :28.1 and the half in a leisurely :58.4.

Jayport Cash (Chris Page) caught the field after an early miscue, forcing Ready For Pictures and driver John De Long to come first-up.

Ready For Pictures cleared to the top well before the three-quarters in 1:26.3.

Jayport Cash ruined his chances with another break in stride.

Hey Trixey tried to battle back, but came up a length short in 1:55.3.

Spiritual Faith (Jeremy Smith) made a late passing lane bid but had to settle for third.

Tabatha De Long conditions Ready For Pictures for Jesse De Long.

The gelding recorded his 11th career win and his sixth of the season.

The $11,000 condition claiming pace had Keene Finale and driver Hank Le Van go from last-to-first in the final three-eighths of the mile to nip the pacesetting Matt And Luke (Kayne Kauffman) in the final strides.

Shaving Cream (Cam McCown) blasted off the gates wings from post #9 and cleared fellow leaver Matt And Luke, who refused to sit in the pocket and retook at the opening quarter in :27.4.

Bobrosshasspoken (Luke Hanners) was the first to come to the outside, providing much needed cover for Rose Run Balance (Jeremy Smith).

The half was in :57.

The Bobrosshasspoken challenge stalled at the three-quarters in 1:25.1, forcing Rose Run Balance three-wide in the final turn.

The eventual winner responded to having his ear plugs pulled at the three-quarters and thanks to a bold four-wide move around the final bend was clear on the outside.

The sophomore son of Racing Hill gunned down Matt And Luke at the line and was a half-length clear in a lifetime best 1:54.3.
Rose Run Balance held off Bobrosshasspoken for third.

Keene Finale won for the 10th time this season for the Le Van Stables, Megan Le Van, Richard Freese and Harrison Le Van.

Three reinsmen had driving doubles on the evening – Jeremy Smith, Austin Hanners and Brett Miller.

Racing continues on Wednesday (Oct. 28) at the Dayton oval. The 14-race card will get kicked off with a 4:00 PM first post.

Plainville, MA — Brett Beckwith, who is currently North America’s fifth leading dash driver, was hard at work at Plainridge Park on Tuesday (Oct. 27) winning both features while also posting an overall hat trick in the bike.

Beckwith won the $20,000 Minutemen and Women for Massachusetts-bred horses with Uff Da, who earned a hard fought victory.

Uff Da left from post eight and was parked three-deep for over a quarter mile before he finally crossed over passing the finish line the first time. Uff Da then reached the half in :56.1 with Beantown Miki (Mitchell Cushing) sitting on his back. As they made their way to three-quarters, Street Justice (Kyle Swift) pulled first-over and applied pressure to the leader well into the last turn. But Street Justice eventually faded, leaving Beantown Miki a clear path towards Uff Da. Coming off the turn, Beantown Miki tipped and advanced on Uff Da, along with Mia’s Boy (Matty Athearn), who was in full flight heading for home. That two-pronged attack kept gaining ground, but Uff Da reached the line before they could reach him and Uff Da won by three-quarters of a length in 1:54.3.

It was the second straight win and third in his last four outings for Uff Da ($3.00), who is owned by John Lems and Chirs Lems and trained by Melissa Beckwith.

Brett Beckwith then scored a night-cap winner with Th Kay C Crunch, who took a new lifetime mark in victory.

Th Kay C Crunch got away fifth, as Sweet Street Lou (Matty Athearn) muscled his way to the front in :26.1. But immediately, Montana GB (Nick Graffam) pulled and charged to the front before passing the half in :54 flat. Then just before three-quarters, Sweet Street Lou came out to challenge Montana GB while Th Kay C Crunch was third-over in that outer flow, but that wasn’t for long. Beckwith tipped Th Kay C Crunch three-wide at the top of turn three and powered into contention by the top of the stretch. When they straightened for home, Th Kay C Crunch reeled in Montana GB and cruised home under a line drive to win by 1-¼ lengths in a career best, 1:50.3, home in :27.4.

It was the seventh win of the year for Th Kay C Crunch ($5.40), who is owned by Joe Trice and trained by Jimmy Nickerson.

Beckwith’s third win was with Captain Tell (1:52.3, $3.00).

Gerald MacKenie Jr. led all trainers on Tuesday with a pair of winners.

Racing will resume at Plainridge Park on Thursday (Oct. 29) at 2 p.m. and there will be a $20,204 carryover in the Wicked Hi-5 pentafecta wager in the sixth race.

Also featured on the card will be the $1.32 million Massachusetts Breeder Stakes finals with the finest 2 and 3-year-old trotters and pacers of both genders bred in Massachusetts going to post in eight races valued at $165,000 each.

Also, horsemen and horsewomen and fans alike should take note that starting next week on Monday (Nov. 2), post time will be moved to 1 p.m. for the remainder of the meet, which concludes on Tuesday (Nov. 24).

WILKES-BARRE PA – The last two stakes in the 2026 John Simpson Sr. Memorial series, for sophomore females on both gaits, were conducted in three $30,000 divisions per gait on Monday afternoon at Pocono Downs at Mohegan Pennsylvania.

All three favorites won in the trotting ranks. The most impressive of the winners was the Chapter Seven filly My Philomene, who after winning in stakes company at Yonkers (twice), Monticello, Philly, and Tioga, added a sixth straight victory to her tally in a new mark of 1:51.4, missing the local divisional track record of Yo Tillie by only two ticks. Trainer-driver Trond Smedshammer moved the filly to command past the :26.4 quarter, maintained a 1¼ length advantage over pocketsitting Sparks past the half (:55.2) and three-quarters (1:24), then at the stretch call and the finish. The streaking winner is owned by Melady Enterprises LLC.

The Tactical Landing distaff Isabella Bi captured another division in 1:53.1, leading at every position and notching a winning margin of 5¼ lengths. Driver – trainer Åke Svanstedt, through his Åke Svanstedt LLC, co-owns the winner with Joe Sbrocco & JAF Racing, Little E LLC, and Mr Lars Olsson.

Team Svanstedt went 1-2-4 in the other Simpson trot division, as Åke guided Maya Patel Hanover to a wire-to-wire win in 1:54.4, three parts of a length ahead of barnmate Whatarace Hanover. Brittany Farms LLC and Åke Svanstedt LLC own the daughter of Captain Corey.

Only one of the three chalks prevailed in the pacing divisions, and that one, the Always B Miki filly Sandyboots Hanover, tied for fastest Simpson winner of the day at 1:51.3. Pocono’s leading driver Tyler Buter gave a well-judged drive, sitting last in a field of five behind a hot pace, then outfinishing the horse who backed off the rail to follow her, Existential, by a head. Pocono’s top trainer Ron Burke conditions the winner, owned by Burke Racing Stable LLC and Weaver Bruscemi LLC, Lawrence Karr, and Phillip Collura.

The 1:51.3 clocking was also posted by the American Ideal filly Lenna, controlling the pace and stepping home in :54.4 - :27.1. Anthony Napolitano sulkysat for trainer Deborah Daguet and owner Forrest Bartlett, who 40 years ago campaigned Horse of the Year Forrest Skipper.

Just a tick off the other two Simpson pacing winners was the Papi Rob Hanover filly Make It Right, who used the famed Pocono Pike to catch frontstepper Vanna By The River by a half length. Jason Bartlett had the sulky seat for trainer Jim King Jr. and owners Gary McCandless, Jo Ann Looney-King, and Larry Rathbone.

Tyler Buter guided three winners on the card; driving doubles were rung up by both Anthony Napolitano and brother George Jr., along with Åke Svanstedt (as described above) and Ridge Warren. Svanstedt also trained both his sulky successes; Dean Eckley also had a pair of conditioning wins.

Trotters up and down the classification ladder will be featured as Pocono closes out its racing week Tuesday at 1 p.m. The next racing after that is Saturday (also 1 p.m.), which is full of highlights: Ruthless Hanover going for his third straight top-class pace victory; the first preliminary of the Game Of Claiming Pacing Series for horses with a base tag of $10,000; and simulcasting of the second day of the Breeders Cup Thoroughbred competition.

Notatthetablcarlos takes Pop Up Final at Saratoga

by Mike Sardella

Notatthetablcarlos (Muscle Mass) scored the biggest victory of his young career on Monday afternoon at Saratoga Casino Hotel.

The Jackie Greene trainee was the betting favorite in the $20,500 “Pop Up Final” and drew post three. Leading driver Kyle Swift has been the regular driver for Notatthetablcarlos since the three year old trotter came to town early in the summertime.

The 7-5 favorite sat the pocket to Iced (Jacob Cutting) who cruised through a first half in 58 seconds before being confronted by another winner from last week in Chapter Of Life (Leon Bailey). Those two slugged it out past three quarters in 1:27 while Notatthetablcarlos awaited open road in the passing lane.

That trio of talented trotters battled in the stretch before Notatthetablcarlos emerged victorious, parlaying the pocket ride to his seventh win of the year, a score that came in 1:56. Chapter Of Life finished second while Iced had to settle for third. Notatthetablcarlos accounted for one of the three driving victories on the card for 21 year old Kyle Swift who recorded a hat trick at Saratoga for the second consecutive day. Swift holds a fairly narrow lead in the driver standings ahead of Jimmy Devaux with about six weeks remaining in the 2026 racing season.

Notatthetablcarlos is owned by Janie Kellogg of Fort Ann, NY. Greene completed a training double in the afternoon’s finale when her Greenarrow Hanover went coast-to-coast in an $11,750 trotting event with reinsman Aaron Byron at the controls.

Live racing resumes on Saturday with a matinee that is set to begin at 12pm.

Pownal Bay Bobbi shines in Harvest Series Finals

MILTON, ONT – Harvest Series action continued Monday night at Woodbine Mohawk Park with four finals, headlined by a pair of $100,000 events.

Ontario Sired or Bred three-year-old fillies competed in the $100,000 finals, while two-year-old fillies squared off in a pair of $60,000 finals. The revamped Harvest Series provides additional racing opportunities for Ontario horses, including those coming off the Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) season.

The three-year-old events were open to non-winners of $150,000 in 2026 as of September 30, while the two-year-old races were for non-winners of $30,000 as of September 30.

Pownal Bay Bobbi delivered a late-October sizzler by winning the Harvest Series 3-Year-Old Filly Pace Final in 1:49 for driver Louis-Philippe Roy and trainer Kyle Fellows.

Sent off at 1/9, Pownal Bay Bobbi charged off the wings with next-door neighbour Lavender Seelster, ultimately tucking into the three-hole. Lavender Seelster posted a wicked :26 opener to set the tone. Horse With A Plan circled from second to first moving up the backside in anticipation of the big favourite moving.

Pownal Bay Bobbi touched down on the lead at a :53.3 half. The Fellows trainee would lead down to three-quarters in 1:21.3 before capping off the mile with an impressive :27.2 kicker to post an impressive three length victory in 1:49, just missing her career-best of 1:48.4.

Horse With A Plan was second, while Romantic Beauty edged Lavender Seelster for third.

A daughter of Century Farroh, Pownal Bay Bobbi scored her third win of the season and moved her three-year-old earnings to $223,922 in 18 starts. The third-place finisher in the OSS Super Final is now a five-time winner overall with $288,144 earned for owners Yolanda Fellows and Blair and Erna Corbeil.

Although Pownal Bay Bobbi’s earnings exceeded the conditions for the Harvest Series, horses entered in the preliminary leg for a claiming price of $100,000 were also eligible.

Pownal Bay Bobbi paid $2.10 to win.

OSS Grassroots Final winner Barbara May held off OSS Super Final fourth-place finisher Flowing Tribute to win the $100,000 3-Year-Old Filly Trot Final for Team McNair.

A homebred for Tom and Elizabeth Rankin, Barbara May and driver Doug McNair went to the front with a snappy :26.4 opening-quarter and never looked back. Racing off fractions of :55.3 and 1:23.4, Barbara May had Flowing Tribute on her back turning for home and the two fillies were meet up in deep stretch with Barbara May holding on by half a length to win in 1:53.

Cupid Hall finished third, while Upgrade was fourth.

Trained by Gregg McNair, Barbara May picked up her fifth win of the season and has now won three of her last four starts. The daughter of Alarm Detector, who was fifth in last week’s preliminary leg, now has six career wins and earnings of $298,055.

Last week’s preliminary leg saw Flowing Tribute make a break, which had her as an also eligible for Monday’s race. The Paul Reid trainee turned in a career-best 1:52.2 qualifier on Friday and then drew in following a scratch.
