Nothing to see here… Just a driver leaving a traffic stop dragging a 20-foot trail of tickets behind him.

Yeah… that happened in the Town of Goshen.

Driver got stopped with an illegal and dangerous commercial vehicle, went through an extensive safety inspection, and let’s just say… it did not go well.

The stack of tickets was so long it that the three of them played JUMP ROPE with it. We are NOT KIDDING.

This commercial vehicle operator, who had no ties to Goshen, seemed to think it was a good idea to give our officers a hard time through the entire stop.

Not a good idea when you’re driving a hunk of junk and hauling a trailer full of crap through our town.

So… we’ve impounded his vehicle, just to drive home the point that road safety isn’t exactly a punchline to your jokes.

Drive safe, keep it legal… or you might end up with your own 20 foot long paper trail.

See you in court, buddy.

I want to take a moment to thank the Sheriffs from Orange, Ulster, and Sullivan Counties. I’ve had the privilege of knowing and working with each of them for decades, and I’m truly grateful for those relationships—both professionally and personally.
It really hit me this past Wednesday at the Mid-Hudson STOP DWI Conference at the Villa Venezia Barn, seeing all three of them together, just how important those connections are. We’ve been through a lot over the years, and I value the trust, respect, and friendship we’ve built along the way.
So to Paul, Mike and Juan please know that I am proud to stand alongside all of you as we continue working to keep our communities safe.

On behalf of the Town of Goshen Police Department, I want to sincerely thank our community, along with the many current and former police officers, state troopers, sheriff’s deputies and police chiefs from surrounding departments, who came out to honor former Town of Goshen Police Chief Dennis Marsh.

Seeing so many people stand together in support meant a great deal to his family

He dedicated so much of his life to serving his country and this community. It meant a lot to stand alongside so many of you as we remembered him.

Thank you for your support, your kindness, and for helping us honor his life in such a meaningful way.

Respectfully,
Chief James Post
Town of Goshen Police Department

UPDATE FROM THE TOWN OF GOSHEN POLICE DEPARTMENT
We’ve gotten a lot of comments asking if this last post was an April Fools’ joke… it wasn’t.
This incident actually DID happen. This is not an April Fools’ joke.
Officers really were called for a dog on a roof, and yes, the dog really had to be helped down.
We know the timing makes it sound made up, but sometimes the calls we get are just that unusual. The dog is safe and back home.
Thanks to everyone who checked in — and as always, we appreciate our officers handling even the unexpected.
And no… we can’t reveal how the dog got up there.
LET THE GUESSING GAME BEGIN. WHO CAN FIGURE IT OUT AND GET IT RIGHT?

Case #: 0401-ROOF-K9
Date: April 1st
Time: 2:47 PM

Officers were dispatched to a residence following reports of a “suspicious individual” observed on the roof. Upon arrival, units identified the subject as a large-sized canine, later described as “very large and cuddly” and “refusing to negotiate.”
The suspect had reportedly accessed the roof via a broken out window screen and was seen pacing along the ridge line, barking at passing vehicles and asserting control over the neighborhood.
Officers established a perimeter and attempted verbal commands, which were ignored. A secondary strategy involving treats was deployed. After a brief standoff, the suspect surrendered without further incident.
No injuries were reported. The canine was safely returned to its owner and has since been released with a warning.
Charges considered:
• Trespassing
• Disorderly Barking
• Impersonating a Furry Chimney
Residents are reminded to secure window screens and monitor pets exhibiting unusual desire to rule the world from above.

ONE MORE THING

We would like to add a comment to the previous post about the accident on 17a yesterday.

While the scene was still active, we were able to view the surveillance video that captured the entire event.

In the middle of chaos and fear, the true character of the citizens in this community really showed. The citizens who stopped to help at the scene of the devastating multi-vehicle tractor-trailer rollover didn’t hesitate—they stepped forward with courage, compassion, and selflessness. They didn’t pull out their cell phones to start recording. They didn’t sit by and watch. They didn’t keep driving to their destinations. In the first moments there are no police officers or fire or EMS. Just cries for help and the destruction that people rarely have to see or experience.

Their quick actions and willingness to help strangers in their darkest moment reflect the very best of humanity. True heroes aren’t always in uniform—sometimes they’re the people who simply refuse to drive past when others need help.

The Town of Goshen PD is impressed. Thank you!!!

Traffic Advisory / Major Accident on Route 17A
This afternoon at approximately 2:47 PM, Orange County 911 dispatched the Town of Goshen Police Department to a multiple-vehicle motor vehicle accident on Route 17A (by Jones Plumbing) involving a rollover tractor trailer loaded with logs.
Responding officers located a serious scene involving nine vehicles. The driver of the log truck was pinned upside down inside the cab for an extended period of time, and the operator of a second vehicle was also pinned inside their vehicle. The second vehicle also contained a pregnant female and a rear-seat passenger.
Responding fire departments, led by the Florida Fire Chief, immediately began life-saving measures and complex extrication operations utilizing hydraulic rescue equipment. Firefighters successfully extricated both trapped drivers.
In total, six patients were transported to two area hospitals for treatment.
We were assisted on scene by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office, New York State Police, fire departments from Florida, Goshen, and Pine Island, Goshen EMS, Hatzolah EMS, and the New York State Department of Transportation. If any assisting agencies were inadvertently not mentioned, please know that your support and professionalism were greatly appreciated.

Due to the severity of the crash and the rescue operations, Route 17A remained closed for several hours. The roadway was fully reopened at approximately 7:15 PM.
We thank all responding agencies for their coordinated efforts and the public for their patience while emergency crews worked to safely manage this serious incident.
