Fairfax City Economic Development (FCED) supports economic and commercial growth in the Fairfax City, VA.

FCED works to attract, retain, and expand successful businesses. The Fairfax City EDA fosters economic development to promote strong commercial revenue, sustainable jobs, and resources for residents by attracting, expanding, retaining, and supporting small business professionals, retailers, and hospitality. The EDA is an organization that promotes a vibrant, growing business environment for city residents. In addition, this supportive environment will assist businesses to start and grow in the city, which creates a strong and sustainable community. A core component of the EDA’s responsibilities involves attracting quality businesses to the City by making it easier to relocate and establish businesses within the city. The EDA is comprised of seven commissioners, independently appointed by the City Council for four year terms. Though a separate unit of government, the EDA works closely with Fairfax City Hall through the Director of Economic Development. The EDA believes in:

-empowering local businesses
-creating sustainable business growth
-promoting community involvement through economic development
-promoting honesty and integrity in the community
-fostering close ties between people, business and government
-the EDA supports new, existing, and prospective Fairfax City small business owners in professional services and retail.

Huge thanks to Destination DC and the Virginia is for Lovers team for spending the day with us and experiencing the people, places, and businesses that make Fairfax City so special. 🌟

We kicked off the morning with coffee and bites at Layered Cafe, then explored Historic Blenheim, key historic sites, and George Mason University. A delicious lunch at The W**e House fueled an afternoon of exploration. The team toured The Auld Shebeen, enjoyed hands‑on fun at Bond's Entertainment Center , and crafted custom scents at DIY Scent Studio Perfumery. They also got a first look at the Old Town Hall renovation and shopped around in Old Town Fairfax.

The day wrapped up with brews, pretzels, and live music at Commonwealth Brewing Company, the perfect finish to an energizing, collaborative day. 😎

This tour would not be possible without the support of the businesses, community partners, and City staff who helped make our first city FAM tour a success. 🤝

Tourism continues to strengthen Fairfax City's economic landscape.

New data from Virginia is for Lovers shows $124M in visitor spending in 2025, which is a 3.2% increase, supporting 1,177 jobs and generating $6M in local tax revenue.

This growth shows more than increased visitor interest. It reflects Fairfax City’s strength as a great place for businesses to invest, hire talent, and grow.

As we shift toward a more business‑focused strategy, these results highlight the assets that make the city a smart, competitive place to build and succeed.

Last week, we celebrated the ribbon-cutting for Above and Beyond: ABA Therapy in the City of Fairfax, VA. ✂️🎉

Above and Beyond ABA Therapy provides individualized, compassionate Applied Behavior Analysis services to support children with autism and their families. Their first Virginia center offers a warm, supportive environment where each child can learn, grow, and build confidence. We’re thrilled to welcome them to the community!

Before launching your business, one of the first things you’ll need is a physical location. A dedicated space helps you take advantage of local incentives, grants, and programs.

Fortunately, the Fairfax Innovation for Research, Science, and Technology (FIRST) program, in partnership with the Mason Enterprise Center of Fairfax, is here to support you. Designed for startups and research-focused innovators, FIRST helps early-stage companies developing emerging technologies who see the City of Fairfax, Virginia, as a long-term home.

Participants receive no-cost office space for up to six months while they pursue funding. Once funding is secured, they will then transition into a two-year paid lease at the MEC.

Fairfax City has a special pathway just for certified local microbusinesses. Qualified businesses located in Fairfax City can receive City purchase orders up to $25,000 without competition when pricing is fair and reasonable. That means fewer barriers and more opportunities to grow through local government contracts.
To qualify, your business must:
• Be located in Fairfax City
• Have fewer than 25 employees
• Earn under $3M annually
• Hold Small Business and Supplier Diversity Microbusiness Certification
